Hi folks this is my predicament.
the camera when switched on displays in the top lcd display 'Err' yet shows battery as fully charged.
ive reformatted my memory card via pc.
changed the lithium cr 123a batteries for new ones.
fully charged the 4 x AA batteries.
the aperture ring lock is set to 22 on the 28mm-80mm af nikkor d lens.
i have it set to af and auto but have tried all other camera setting i can access.
it will focus no problem yet will not allow me to do anything else.
i cannot access the menu eg func, play, in fact the only thing it does is distance light works and focus.
.
please help me.

I cannot solve the problem, but will say that in searching for a solution to my problem, I read in the manual that if you are not going to use the camera for a while, to take the batteries out. This is probably why you now have a malfunction. I sympathise - only now do I know this myself, having not referred to the manual very much in the past eight busy years. Sorry for your loss.
Ps sorted manual downloaded free from fuji uk
problem still persists after being sent to fuji they informed me repair costs would be £389 and thats it no breakdown of what the problem is just
FAULT
great service NOT.
so they think i would pay £389 for an 8 years old superseded many times s1 pro against the cost of fuji's latest s5 pro being less than £450.

If "Err" is displayed on the LCD panel on the top
of the camera when the "MENU/EXE" button on the FinePix S1 Pro is
pressed, check the following:
<If "Err" is not flashing>
1. If the slot cover is open, switch the camera off, close
the slot cover and switch the camera back on.
2. If the remaining charge in the AA-size batteries is low,
switch the camera off, replace the batteries and switch the camera back on.
3. If steps 1 and 2 above do not remedy the problem, contact
the store where you purchased the camera or your nearest authorized FUJIFILM
repair center.
<If "Err" is flashing>
1. Pictures cannot be taken because the remaining charge in
the lithium batteries is too low or because the camera mechanism has stopped
operating due to the camera being used in cold conditions.
In this event, switch the camera off, replace the batteries
and then switch the camera back on. If replacing the batteries does not resolve
the problem, set the focusing mode to "M" and release the shutter
before switching the camera off briefly.
2. If step 1 above does not resolve the problem, contact the
store where you purchased the camera or your nearest authorized FUJIFILM
dealer.
