I have a HP PSC 1610v. When I last went to change ink cartridges the black cartridge would not stay locked in to its place so I can't print. I have tried looking for paper jams (I keep getting an error message stating I have one) but haven't found any. I have cleaned what I could get to inside the printer but still can't get the one cartridge to stay locked into place. Btw, it's not the cartridge because the old one won't lock back in either. They click into place then loosely drop back out.

You need to bypass the out of ink message. If you have a parallel port, you can turn off the "bidirectional support" in the printer section of the control panel
Or you screwed yourself by waiting too long The ink acts as a coolant for the cartridge. If you waited too long to fill it and burned it up, you will destroy the TSR (thermal sense resistor) and the cartridge is toast.
If yes then there is a fault with the actual cartridge. Check you have removed the tape from the ink outlet if its still on it will cause theis error. If all appears right, try another GENUINE cartridge and claim the faulty one Please rate my help++++Thanks for using FIXYA
replace the colour cartridge aLSO AS IT NEEDS some specific colour to start this allignment and to complete but the colour is not getting printed so this error.
remove the cartridges from the printer.unplug the printer for some time.then again ON it and insert the cartridges and try .
sometimes it helps.
Hi, I had the same problem. I extracted both cartridges (colour and black), I cleaned both with alcohol and q-tips, I also cleaned in the same way the golden conections of the machine. Reinstalled and works (solved in only 5 minutes).
Important: This problem appeared when I was using the copy function in black and white, not in colour. Thats why I decided to clean BOTH cartridges (the colour one was very clean and black cartridge was the really dirty one).
Don´t ask me why, but it worked. Try cleaning both cartridges.
Hope it would be useful and I appologyze for my english (is not as good as I would like)
