Having a problem getting a picture

We have a rear projection Toshiba, with a 61" inch screen. We have a problem getting a picture. There are some channels that are perfect and with other channels we get a black screen right in the middle with only the top and bottom showing. There is sound, but we are only able to get around 12 channels that are viewable.

Im sorry to tell you this but it sounds like someone turned on the text feature on the closed caption? Go into the menu function, with the remote, and turn off the closed caption.

Toshiba 61 inch rear projection scrambled picture for 10 minutes after power on, then clears up.

If you are seeing lines and or noise for the first several minutes and it goes away--I think I know what the problem is.

Has the period of time before it clears up been getting longer and longer?

Reply to me with the exact model number and I will tell you what is wrong and what has to be done to fix it.

A lot of these sets have problems with what is called a HYPER board----it controls all signal inside the set--confirm Toshiba and exact model number---

Do you have instructions for replacing the outer picture screen?

Hi,
I'm muziclady & I had three choices to choose for replacing the screen. The first was to purchase a new screen through Sony's parts dept. site
Secondly I found this this site that makes rear pro. screen antiglare screens: http://www.glarestopper.com/measure2.php
Also from this site, it has instructions for the removal of the screen to measure & re-install. [which is easy]. The actual screen size for the 61" is 58x30 inches, & it's referred as being a 61" Projection TV Screen Only [Lenticular Fresnel] .
My final choice was to Google for a screen replacement. I was fortunate to find a used one from an RCA television..It's the exact same size, etc.

Hope this helps... :)

Toshiba Rear Projection TV Problem

Toshiba is one of the few sets that do not have a diagnosis feature built into the power light , Toshiba has to be able to light the screen to access its self diagnosis features. So you will most likely need the service manual to check the voltages in order to properly diagnose your set. You can get a service manual at the following link, and they will email it to you if you would like. here is the link.

61 inch proj. warped concave picture.

Josh Any chance you could send a photo... Too many ideas come to mind from what you've described. Would actually have to see the "warp" in the picture itself to see if it's one or all colors, any boarders and if the bend is actually pulling from top or bottom.. Bill [email protected]
