My LCD power light flashes orange and screen is blank and there is afaint ticking noise coming from the monitor. Can anyone help?

Anyone ever figure what hell the problem is? Same issue here except every other day it will turn back on normal but I am unable to use the knob to change amp preset or model. Then it will go blank/ no sound again. Blinking save light.

You more like have bad capacitors in the power supply. Open it up and look for capacitors with bulging tops. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
Common problems fro 2~3 years old monitors/ TV.

Make sure you set up your laptop to display to a second screen. Depending on your Operating system, go to your display properties and go to the settings tab. Then click on the second monitor and enable it.

Is the Battery making the cranking noise? If so the battery is telling you the battery is dying. I have a IBM ThinkPad 380Z and when on the charger it makes a beeeeep noise and goes off and on for almost the entire day and then stops and keeps a solid orange battery light on.
Try booting without battery

I have an HP 2710 in excellent condition. I lost the power supply when moving from Texas to California.

I have since purchased another HP four in one macnine and could easly justify selling this one. My price would be low and I would be willing to ship for a few dollars. I am good at packing so it will not get damaged. Willing to sell for $35.00 and estimate $12.00 for packaging and shipping costs.

Something has failed or is failing in the monitor. It may be serviceable, but may not be cost effective to do so unless something has just come loose. I'm assuming you have no problems with the new monitor. Your time line is a little confusing.

1st Idea - Let's take a look under the cover. I'm not sure how tech savvy you are, but I'm sure you're pretty good if you have a soldering iron. Once inside locate the power supply section. See if you see any blown capacitors on it or any other boards. One obvious way is to see if they are bad is if they have bulging up tops. There could be some weak or bad ones that aren't popped up, but let's start from there. If there are any bad caps, they are dirt cheap price wise at an electronics shop. For some reason, it seems as if your monitor has either lost the video signal or the capability to interpret the siganl. If you have the ability, put a second monitor (or tv) to your computer. See if you get a video siganl. If you do, then your monitor has an internal issue with the signal and needs to be addressed "hands on" by a technician. If you do not see a video, then your problem lies within your video card. Good luck.
