I just took in the set to get it fixed because it was shutting off after being on a few moments. The guy said he couldn't get the part he needed and dropped it back off. Now it stays on but there is a rainbow going in different directions on the screen. There are green, blue and red stripes that do not touch each other but go parallel. Is this from a magnet? Can I fix this without taking it back in?
There is a picture underneath the stripes of the rainbow. When I turned it back on the stripes on the left half faded to being almost gone. There is a picture underneath the stripes of the rainbow. When I turned it back on the stripes on the left half faded to being almost gone.
Sounds to me the set was handled rough,Mabe landed on it's face in trandsport? Or dropped on a corner of the cabinet? check for dents or bruses on the cabinet. Otherwise go back to the shop where it was sapose to be repaired and explain what you have to the personin chargeand ask if they would try to demagnatise the set for you, they could have left the demag/coil plug out and it can cause the sametype problem.
Good Luck Walter

Re: Rainbow on the tv
The only time I have seen that symptom is when the shadow mask of the picture tube gets loose,What that means is you might be looking at a bad crt, color splashes could be a purity problem but rainbow lines are not.Sometimes that happens by itself or by being drop.Good luck
The shadow mask is inside the picture tube and it can not be repaired,if we are talking about the same the problem will not go away by itself. The shadow mask is inside the picture tube and it can not be repaired,if we are talking about the same the problem will not go away by itself.

When a bearing or the motor brushes go out it will cause the motor to shut down like this. If this is the case and you continue to try to force it there will be potential damage to the armature.
Hi Jeff,
Contact discount.merchant.com for those parts. I believe they sell both parts. They also have a great customer service line that you can call where they will help you find. I'm thinking of buying a new lamp for my RPTV from (I think I just broke it moving the TV). If you need help with instructions try the fixyourdlp.com/forum -- there is a community of experts there will lots of D.I.Y tips. I used them to figure out a problem I was having with my remote.
If it looks like a rainbow of some sort and a standard picture tube set it is degaussing problem--set does this for a moment when turned on and if does not complete you get this---to prove this with set on turn the set to face another direction and see if the colors you see change or shift position.
There are things that can be done if this is the case.
My Samsung big screen showed the same symptoms. It ended up being two $5 resisters that burned out a very short time after purchase. My extended warranty took care of it but it took several service calls and the end solution was to replace the entire light engine.
Most of the time heat is the cause for shut down. Check the vents which allow air to circulate thru the set, also be sure the fan is working.
The first thing a repair man will do is replace the bulb. If you can do it yourself you can save some $$.
My advice is to find a good TV guy. One who's been around for a while. Sorry couldn't be more help. Good Luck!
it would be better to reset it to factory settings first and then configure the settings the way you want it afterwards... do you know that guy? is he even working for a known repair shop in your area? he might not be a certified repair guy...
Go to the last page of troubleshooting in the manual and perform the system reset procedure. Basically hold the Wega "arrow up" as you manually switch the TV off. It will automatically switch back on and reset. I had only vertical colored lines on the screen, with audio but no response to any remote control functions. The rest worked perfectly.
Hi, the convergence circuit is getting ready to fail, fix it NOW and you may get away with just resoldering the STK`s, soon they will overheat and short then it`s going to be 250-300 to fix it depending on your area rates, gl, video-tek

So does the tube just need to be tightened?
