Remove the top, the red wire is + and the black - there should be a small black diode near by, if the wires were crossed the diode is shorted and must be replaced "part of the protection circuitry" check for any open foils on the circuit board, If you are very lucky the unit will come back online.

Radio display says protect. does not emit sound.

Sounds like you have either a short in your speaker wire somewhere, wires touching in the back of the unit or a short inside the stereo itself... Try pulling the radio out and unhooking all of your speakers...Turn unit back on after all speakers are disconected...If unit still shows protect, then radio is bad...If it doesnt, power off and hook up speakers one by one and power it back on till it shows protect again....When it does, the last speaker wire you hooked up has either a crossed wire or the speaker is bad...

I have a uniden pc68ltw cb radio and it keeps blowing the 2amp in line fuse i tried a 5amp but still blows the fuse.i hooked it into another truck to test it but still blew the fuse. something wrong with...

Hello,

have you been using the uniden pc68ltw cb radio without the fuse blowing before?

If the uniden pc68ltw cb radio has not been blowing fuse before, then might be a problem from the radio. This problem should be a power related problem.

The fuse blowing means there is excess of current. So while your trying to refuse, thicken the wire.

Best regards.

My uniden pro510xl when hooking it up imediately blows the fuse like a dead short but if i hook up another radio it will work fine

The radio was probably wired backwards at some point. There is a reverse polarity diode inside that must be replaced to fix this. If you have continued replacing fuses and plugging it back in, there may be further damage such as finals or audio amplifier chip as well. you will need to take the radio to a qualified repairman for service. If it is simply the reverse polarity diode, your bill should not be more than an hour's labor charge.

Crossed pos neg wirws hooking radio up now when hooking it up fuse blows as soon as power is turned on

Hopefully this is the first time this happened to this radio.Take off the cover's(top & bottom)and where the power wire's come into the back of the radio if you look on the component side you should see a diode that is generally larger than the rest of the diode's as well as maybe a different color(i.e.black with a silver band as opposed to clear with a red band)this is your protective diode what you do is replace that diode making sure you solder it in with the band on the same side as the one you took out,You can also just cut one leg so it's not making contact BUT when you do this you have no protection so if you ever cross wires again the radio is history so my main advise is replace it don't just cut it.Good Luck and have a good day.
