Push play-no sound

My tape player is an older GPX that has a FF and Play. Both seem to be working, the tape is turning when I push either button. However when I push play, no sound is produced even though the tape is turning. I was wondering if there was some easy fix or some small part that I could get from Radio Shack to fix it? Thanks

Ok could be some easy fixes - first if you have a green or thin black earphone socked these are offen easly dammaged - of so it may be possible to solder and new one on - Cause 2 - could be the play head has been dammaged these are easy to replace of you have a replacment head = Cause 3 - dirty earphone socket or faulty earphones = Cause 4 - volume ajustment has failed these are normaly fixed to the board by 5 connectors and othough replaceable they are dificult to match.

I have a Soundesign 4387 stereo boombox the left deck won't turn when you insert a tape and push play.

There could be a few reasons why the left deck on your Soundesign 4387 boombox is not turning when you insert a tape and push play. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check to make sure that the left deck is not already playing a cassette. If a cassette is already in the left deck, try pressing the "eject" button to remove it and then reinserting it to see if it will play.
  2. Check to see if the left deck belt is broken or loose. If the belt is broken or loose, it may not be turning the tape deck properly.
  3. Make sure that the cassette is not upside down or inserted incorrectly.
  4. Check the left deck for any visible signs of damage or debris that may be causing the issue.
If none of these troubleshooting steps help, it is possible that there is a more serious issue with the left deck of your boombox that will require more extensive repairs. In this case, it may be best to take the boombox to a professional repair shop to have it checked out.

I took my Pioneer SX-450 Receiver and Pioneer CT-1040W Tape Deck apart to move it. Put it back together. Now can't get a tape to play.

After putting a known good tape in the deck, push play, if the tape doesn't move, try rewind and FF. If nothing happens, the deck has a problem. I assume this is a cassette deck. If so, I always try the thrift stores for a new(used) one. There are good bargains there.

Teac X-300R doesn't play with tape

Here's a great forum that may help. Sounds like an internal belt problem.

It can be a number of things. There are some models that are suppose to run the capstan when a tape is in and some unit that only run when the play is pushed. The proper operation and speed as well as cleaning can all be done by a Tape Deck Technician.

TEAC CX-370 Cassete Deck

Could be a worn out belt? The cassette loads it the drive down too much. Hence why it turns with no tape.
