9p6040 c102 60" television - has power, no sound or picture

Hello, We were given a lovely 60" PM 9p6040 c102 60" television that does not work. I have seen this problem reported a few times over the Net but no solutions as of yet. The green light on the front of the TV comes on when you press "Power On". It is steady and does not flash. There is no indication of power-up otherwise. There is no sound. There is no picture. This apparently happened suddenly when the prior owners were watching television - it just "died" in the middle of their program. We have tried various "soft resets" by unplugging and letting it "rest", trying different outlets on different circuits, even leaving it turned on for a few hours. Nothing has changed The remote does appear to "talk" to the TV as it will make the LCD go on, off, or flash a couple of times depending on what we push but that is all. We opened the back to have a look and did NOT clean it or touch anything. There is no obvious signs of damage to our untrained eyes. We called PM and they told us the nearest authorized service center is several hundred miles awaay. It is not under warranty as best we know. Any ideas?

Screen shrinks and expands and wams up after 10-20 minutes and then went out completely? Power light still comes on and remote still works? This is a common problem for this model and is most likely related to a bad chip. A tech will charge you over $300.00 to fix it but you can buy the repair kit including the chip, step by step instructions and repair manuals for under $40.00 if you are willing to do a little soldering. Go to and enter your model or chasis number and order the kit. This will not fix color problems!

The red light is blinking and the tv sounds like it on when unplugged and replugged; but there is a black screen.

If you are having sounds but no picture, it is either the lamp or the t-com board.

But if it does bot display anything or make any sound at all but from inside the unit it sounds like there is power in the unit, then it means there is a problem with the main panel of the television. Most likely a bad capacitor.

Have the unit checked for bad capacitors and replace them and the television will be in good condition once again.

Take care and good luck

I lost my picture I still have sound but no picture.

I have a Philips Magnavox Projection TV.

I had dish satelight install on my TV. It worked well for two days, then the picture started showing in a square box. I ffixed the convergence and it seemed okay. The next day I turned on the tv and it had sound, but no picture. When I press the status button, the picture would come on then go right back out. Now I don't have any sound or picture. Yes the coolant in the CRts need replacement. You can get the Phillips CRT Coolant repair kit at the following link which contains the coolant and instructions.

Picture shrinks and expands

Not positive but this sounds like the impending failure of a specific power supply, namely an output providing deflection voltage to the CRTs. This may be simply a circuit on the main supply or could be a separate supply on a different board than the main supply.
If it is not affecting brightness and contrast, it isn't likely to be the primary supply that is failing. I'm pretty sure it will continue to degrade.

If the power light is still on but you have no audio/video its possible that the opt chip is dead. You can get a repair kit at

Sounds like a solder or connection issue on the small signal panel. which is the ciruit baord on the left hand side of the set looking in from the rear of the set.
