Question about LG GSA-2166D DVD RW Dual Layer Burner

The software provided with my DVD writer doesnt work on mac, and occasionally when i insert a cd it won't register on itunes. I cant use it to write anything because my mac wont recognise it as a drive unless there's a disc in it so i cant configure anything to use it. Humph...

Did you try updating the hardware FIRMWARE? In some cases the firmware of some hardwares are out of date respect to the operative system they're working (or trying to work) on. In case you ignore it Firmware is the "software inside the Hardware". A serie of commands and parameters that give logic to the device, and therefore, tells the hardware how to respond. I hope this can solve your problem. Read your device's user guide to update your firmware or contact your provider. and don't forget to tell us if you solve the problem... ahh... and rate =)

Welcome to Fixya. You don't need a driver since the mac computer was able to recognize the DVD and CD's. If you want to use the DVD writer to burn images on a blank cd you need to use a burning software. Can you please try use the software below and see it if will work.

A freind let me borrow their hp dvd 1040e external 20x multiformat dvd writer. i can burn the music on cds fine with itunes, but i cant figure out how to use the litescribe to burn images on the tops....
You will need Nero burning software. It will after the normal burn show you a screen where you place the image you want to burn for lightscribe. Another failing with lightscribe is that you must have lightscribe discs!

I would say you need a new CD/DVD. This one appears to have given up. There really isn't software that you need to burn DVDs or CDs with Windows. Use Windows Media Center to burn your CDs or DVDs.

My LG writer only opens with the manual open by inserting paperclip in the pin hole...doesnt eject thru MyComputer too...
Hi, the problem is tape cable inside the writer , replace the tape which in LG Writer. (better to take to service center)

My CD rom and lightscribe dvd writer/cd writer for my HP Pavilion1120n do no work. I have tried the trouble shooting and it says it is corrupted or there is no code 39
If you can still detect the device, you should try reinstalling the driver from your device manager. If still doesnt work , you should try to upgrade the firmware driver using proprietary software included in your dvd writer cd.

there ll be a lens in dvd writer which ll be corrupted and disk ll rotate properly even if lens of the dvd writer is spolied...
u hv said u hv warranty right do register for a replacement of the dvd disk

I would email or call hp support and ask about this as there should be a firmware update of some description.

Also re install latest chipset drivers and maybe adaptec aspi drivers ?

on the back of the hardware are jumpers
mine are located next to where the ribbon plugs in
there are 3 jumpers- like this : : :
the jumper must be on "cable" ( printed above post )
just move the jumper and reinstall
Now xp can find the 10401
I did it...it works

may be due buffer underrun... or may be u have inserted more data than the capacity of the cd... try burning less data once... if it doesnt works contact the repair person and get clean ur drive s lens
