Volume stuck at 100, will not lower, remote controls do not lower it, removing batteries no help. Cycling power on TV, no difference.

SOURCE: vizio remote control not working
Hi, I had the same problem. My vizio remote for my 42 inch 2 month old vizio also seemed to stop working. Here's what I did: My vizio remote (like most remote's nowadays) was designed for multiple components (tv, dvd, vcr, etc). All you need to do to make the remote work again is set it back to tv. Now, the confusing thing about vizio remotes is that they actually have TWO places where you can switch the remote to the appliance you want to control. One is on top of the remote, the other is on the BOTTOM. Switch it back to TV using the BOTTOM. My remote had stopped working because I had inadvently switched it to another component on the BOTTOM component switch.

Go into menu, sound set-up, and switch SRS to off. It's a vizio thing they came up with to act like "Smart Sound" where commercials won't be louder. It is total BS and does not work, it makes your normal sound fluctuate. Worked on all 3 of my Vizios. Hope it helps you.

Suspect it could be the controller board or the main board, but which?
It does appear that the manual volume control is related to the on screen display at 100. I can push that manual button, and then lower the volume with the remote. It will then stay but as soon as I take away my hand on the manual control, it shoots back up. Controller board it appears. But, I'm also seeing it come and go. This am. the problem didn't even show up. It may be related to heat as the TV is on. We shall see.
