Question about Nikon Coolpix 4100 Digital Camera

Card Cannot Be Used message?

Okay...my camera has been working just fine for about...a year? I'm not sure how long, but all of a sudden my memory card (which is a SanDisk 512 MB) isnt working. I put it in and the message "This Card Cannot Be Used" pops up on the screen. It wont let me format the card on my setup either...it wont let me select that option. Does anyone know the cause of or solution to this? Thanks so much :)

I'm having the same issue, except this problem happened slowly, not all at once. I would get the "card cannot be used" message, turn off the camera and turn it back on again, and it would work. Now that doesn't work anymore. I did completely reformat the card within the past week, but that didn't help. Any ideas? I have work-required photos on there!

    Thanks!

If you've been using a 512mb sd card and it's worked your extremely lucky. the support was only designed to go to 256mb

HI! I have a one year old Lumix DMC-FS15 that I barely used for some personal photos, I bought a 4 GB SDHC memory card with it, it used to work just fine but now whenever I turn o the camera I message...

If the memory card works on your pc, chances are it is fine.

So you have two things to do : first backup on your computer any picture on your card.

Secondly put it back in the camera, go into the menu and find where to Format the card.
Once the card is formated by the camera try to take a picture to see if the problem is solved. If not, look through your camera menu, certainly under "memory setting" or something similar, then you will have an option to choose on wich memeory the pictures are recorded: the internal one or the card.
Make sure your 4gb card is selected. This shoul solve the issue.

Hope this helps.

My camera suddenly had the message "card locked!".

If this camera uses SD cards then what may be happening is that the little lever that drops into the slot on the side of the card to indicate locked or unlocked is jammed in the locked position. If you shine a flashlight in you might be able to see where the pin is.

8GB CENTON SDHC memory card - class 4 - worked okay first day. Removed card to transfer pics to computer. Did fine. When inserted card back in camera JVC-PICSIO GC-FM2BU, got "Memory Card Error"...

Sounds like you forgot to use the "safely remove hardware" when you removed the card from the computer. Also, never format a card in a computer and then expect it to work in a camera. You can try to format it a few more times in the camera but if not successful, then you should think about getting an new card.

Camera will not format Memory Card. When I turn on the camera it states, Momory card requires formatting. When I try to format it says it is formatting but then goes straight back to the original message...

  • Insert your memory card into your computer's reader if you have one. If not, you can purchase a multi-format USB Memory Card reader from Amazon.com or Buy.com
  • 2 Open up 'My Computer'. You should see it under the list of available drives.
  • 3 Check its contents first to make sure that you have the right drive.
  • 4 In 'My Computer', right-click on the drive and choose 'Format'.
  • 5 Leave all the options as they are and click on 'Start'. This is a non-reversible process so make sure this is what you truly wanted to do in the first place.
  • 6 Once the process is completed, take the memory card out and insert it into your Digital Camera or any other device. Try to browse to it to make sure it works fine now.

Use a separate card reader to download your pictures. Then, format the card in the camera.

    Memory card error

If the card works on OTHER devices, and you've formatted the cards... the only conclusion you can really have is that it's a problem with the camera. Repair or replace.

Write protect message appears on screen

Sounds as if the memory card may be corrupted. In order to remove the write protect, make sure you have downloaded and saved all of the images from the memory card to your computer and then having the card in the camera you will need to run the format option and this will permanently remove the write protect as well as all of the images from the card.
The card should be able to be used again after the write protect is removed.

    Nikon S1 memory problem

Just so you know, I have this problem also. Anyway, the only thing that works for me is to turn the camera on WITHOUT the card inserted, then insert the card. After this, it will let me take ONE photo, video, or noise clip before it gives me the error again (strangely enough, I just figured out this solution a couple hours ago as I was browsing a listing for a similarly infected camera on eBay).
