This will be bearing noise, the front of the drum uses a felt strip as a bearing and this can wear causing a metal on metal grinding sound, or it could be the rear bearing. You need to dismantle it to investigate further.

Most common fault is broken or snapped drive belt. Control wise, most dryers will not spin if the control system detects that the door is not fully closed or properly locked. And also when the drain valve failed to open.

disconnect dry and in the back of dryer in top left hand corner is your diagram, looking from back of dryer, just remove the 6 screws from the top panel at the back of the dryer Good Luck Tim
Please help. I've got a Defy 45 auto dryer.The drum belt tensioner and spring fell off into the casing when I was removing the dum.
I cannot work out where the pulley mounting and spring fit so that it tensions the belt.
