SOURCE: GE washer no main motor run so no agitate or spin

This is the electronic washer. Unplug for two minutes, plugin then open and close lid 7 times. This will reset motor. Also make sure belt is not broken.

SOURCE: Kenmore 80 series won't spin

If it is draining then the motor is turning the pump so it is ok.
This washer has no belt so that is not the problem.
Remove the cabinet and bypass the lid switch wires and put into a spin. Watch the clutch to see if it is turning. If the clutch housing is not turning and you know for sure the coupler is not broken then you need a new transmission. If the clutch housing is turning but the basket is not spinning you have something binding the basket or you need a new basket drive and clutch.
If you have only looked at the coupler from underneath you may not be able to tell if it is broken in the center. If it is broken again your transmission is not staying in neutral drain until the water is drained. That means it is going into spin with full load of clothes and water. This puts a lot of pressure on the coupler and causes them to fail prematurely. If this is the case you will need a new transmission.
Post back if you have any questions.

SOURCE: My GE washer won't spin or agitate

check the motor capacitor if your motor doesn't turn when powered, otherwise the "wig-wag"coil could be faulty, these coils shift your transmission for different cycles

Lid is not locking properly, washer sensor is overfilling, and the washer wont spin

Check door switch: If the lid switch is bad it will not drain or spin. Try this test: With lid open let it finish wash cycle. Press lid switch down with screwdriver. Washer should begin draining. Release switch. Motor should stop. Press switch a second time. Washer should start spinning as it continues to drain. If motor doesn't come on while lid switch is pressed, replace the switch. OR

The washing machine wont agitate?

There are many possibilities for this problem. you will have to check all of them one by one mentioned as follows :--- There is a lid switch in the washer. The washing machine will not start spinning till the lid is closed. In some cases it has been seen that lid is closed still the washer does not agitating. in this cases the lid switch has to be checked. if the lid switch is faulty then the closed lid will not be detected by the washing machine, and it will not start agitate cycle.
But if the lid switch is ok checked, then other possibility can be fault in the motor coupler. Many a times the motor coupler is broken .The motor coupler is plastic/rubber kind of material fitted on the shaft of the motor .Check properly if the motor coupler seems cracked, worn out loose or broken then it needs to be replaced to solve the issue. But if motor coupler is checked ok then other possibility for this problem is the spinning belt. If the belt is worn out or loose or cracked/broken then it needs to replace.
Only for GE washers. In GE model washers, there is a clutch used for proper spin speed. If the clutch wears out, it has to be replaced. But if clutch/belt seems ok. then other possibility is driver motor itself .check if the motor has power if not then the motor is got internally burnt .in this case the drive motor needs to be replaced. but if drive motor is functioning properly then other possibility to be checked for this fault is the transmission shifter and pulley. If the transmission shifter becomes defective, the unit may drain the water but not spin. Replacing the shifter is bit time consuming and tough job. you will require proper tools to deal with this problem.. But if the transmission shifter is properly working then other possibility to check is the Agitator itself. If the transmission is moving properly but the Agitator is getting stuck and not moving properly then its the fault in the agitator assembly that has to be replaced to solve the problem. This will help.Thanks.

Washer agitates, drains OK, but spin doesn't start

Timer is defective. Your unit has a netural drain. When finished agitating, the shuts down and then starts up reversing to drain and spin. On the initial reverse start, the water drains without the transmission spinning. After a timed period 3-4 minutes, the timer is supposed to pause, stopping the motor for a few seconds. When the motor stops again, the transmission shift to the spin cycle and when the timer resumes power tothe motor it should spin. You are doing the same thing when you lift the lid...stopping the timer and then the tranny shifts and when you set the lid down, the washer spins. Replace the timer.......

GE washing machine, wont spin

Same problem (but without any smell). You should try to reset the two computer boards in the washer. You do this by 1) unplugging machine and wait for 30 secs; 2) plug in machine; and 3) open and fully close the lid at least 5 times. This resets computer boards, which can get messed up by power surges, etc.
