I think your tv tuner is defective even if it is new, still factory defects can happen. try to install it in another computer, if you experience the same problem then it is defective. but have you checked your device status at device manager under sound, video and game controller. if you see a yellow apostrophe or a question mark it indicates that your tv tuner is havent been installed yet. try to double click the device and you'll see update driver then try to intall it by choosing automatically driver, be sure that the cd driver is inside your cd rom.

Okay, Media center does not work with some Wintv HVR's yet it will work with the software it came with and sometimes media center will use the wintv software to make it work but its sketchy. If you want a more media center compatiable card look at www.microsoft.com website they have a list of media center compatable Tv tuner cards, Trust me I am having the same problem with my tuner card now and its not wintv its a RCA and its under windows 7 this is just the thing here not all card work with media center.
Thanks for using fixya.com please do click the accept button.
go into the drvice manager
right click and select scan for hardware changes
this should popup the tv tuner and automatically install the drivers..
If that fails
turn off the system
remove the tuner card
boot the system and using the device manager scan for hard ware changes
shut down
replace the tvtuner
restatr and in the device manager scan for hard ware changes again
Also in Mce insure you have the correct imaging device and tuner device selected, this will be located in the setup options
Do you have tv tuners installed and setup properly? Media Center 2005 is just the software, the computer needs to have hardware tuners in it and hooked up to external antenna or cable.
try installing the necessary video codecs required to playi.e., based on which format your tv tuner plays, also install the software once again from your tv tuner cd
