Manual says the loading is normal for 50 seconds - it stayed on 20+ minutes and as noted, can't do anything in the mean time, including shutting it off. Unplugging didn't work either, it would come on and stay in loading...Manual says the loading is normal for 50 seconds - it stayed on 20+ minutes and as noted, can't do anything in the mean time, including shutting it off. I have the same unit with the same problem. Its been to JVC 2 times for power supply repair(the power supply overheats). I am now having this again and will send it a third time. I was told by JVC they will replace the unit after 3 repairs. We'll see??
First of all if it is still under warranty take it back and exchange it or have them look at it.
As far as it not wanting to turn off you can search for a reset button on the back of the unit. Reset it. Or if no reset button just unplug it and plug it back in. See if that helps.
As far as being jammed. Unplug the unit. Very carefully take the unit apart. See if anything has been accidentally placed in the unit when a dvd was pushed in at the same time. I have experienced this before cause I have little kids. Things happen. Now there again by taking it apart could void any warranty you may have.
Also something in the unit could also shorted a circuit out causing it to not turn off.

Hello The laser pickup unit of your DVD player may either be faulty or dusty. Just put in a cleaning disc into it and play it for at least three times, and check. If it does not help you, the laser pickup unit of your device should be replaced with same type and number. Just check the loading belt too. OK.
This can be due to a faulty LOADING drive settings, It can be due to a misalignment of the loading section and so the load does not reset to the PARK CONDITION of the MODE.
It can be a aulty gear, belt or jamming in the drive.
You need to open the player, remove the mechanism and manually check the forward and loading motion which can confirm. If the belt or the drive is jammed this can be checked and replaced or reset.
Check the mode switch settings of the forward loading.
open tray
enter 0520, then press up, down, left, right (these are the keys around the ok/enter button)
a message will appear on the screen showing current region
press 0 and enter
it should now play any region
hope this helps
A very likely situation could be that the VHS DECK ASSEMBLY has a jam or a problem. Remove the case of the unit and check for any damages or loose mechanisms, if all works ok and looks ok, slowy , carefully put a tape into the unit and see if there are any jams or anything stopping it from moving.
DVD loading mechanism doesn't load completely that's why opens after attempt of loading. You need to open top cover of unit and inspect loading belt might be lose, tray timing can be out of phase, some wire got stuck with tray while loading etc.
