Not positive but this sounds like the impending failure of a specific power supply, namely an output providing deflection voltage to the CRTs. This may be simply a circuit on the main supply or could be a separate supply on a different board than the main supply.
If it is not affecting brightness and contrast, it isn't likely to be the primary supply that is failing. I'm pretty sure it will continue to degrade.

Common problem on this model of Magnavox TV sets. The screen will shrink then expand. After about 10 minutes it may or may not correct it self. After a few months of bouncing in and out the TV will just stop working. You will have no audio or video. You can find a repair kit herehttp://www.TvRepairKits.com . Hope this helps.

Yes the coolant in the CRts need replacement. You can get the Phillips CRT Coolant repair kit at the following link which contains the coolant and instructions.

No picture or sound

Put the old chip back in...does the shrinking/expanding problem return? If so the new chip may be faulty.

If the problem stays the same - no audio/video  - check your soldering, cables, etc.

I had the same issue. The screen would shrink and then expand over and over. After thrity minutes it would correct itself.
After a few months of doing this it just broke - no sound and no videe but the power light was still on.

I searched these forums but did not find clear instructions or kits on how to fix it. I gave up and called in a repair tech. He fixed my TV in less than 30 minutes.

To help others I documented the fix and created a repair kit and step by step quide on how to fix the problem. You can find it here. http://www.magnavoxhelp.com

9p6040 c102 60" television - has power, no sound or picture

Screen shrinks and expands and wams up after 10-20 minutes and then went out completely? Power light still comes on and remote still works? This is a common problem for this model and is most likely related to a bad chip. A tech will charge you over $300.00 to fix it but you can buy the repair kit including the chip, step by step instructions and repair manuals for under $40.00 if you are willing to do a little soldering. Go to http://www.magnavoxhelp.com/ and enter your model or chasis number and order the kit. This will not fix color problems!
