WOW! This actually worked. Punching the camera also helped relieve my frustration over it not working. To think I almost threw it away! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can confirm that opening the my sony dsc-s40 and disconnecting the lcd and cleaning the contacts and reconnecting fixed this problem. I didn't want to risk damaging the camera by abusing it, lol. The contacts were clean, but I cleaned them anyway. I think a connector had just come loose as there are a lot of small high density ribbon cables. -oc

Hitting the camera with knuckle worked better - i didnt understand what does this mean >>>>"he problem is in bad contacts on flat cable from the LCD. Cleaning the cable and the connector can solve the problem."

Hello, you should claim for an in warranty repair. The problem is in bad contacts on flat cable from the LCD. Cleaning the cable and the connector can solve the problem. If you need more info please advice.

Found solution on another site. Hold camera in left hand and rap the front where the Cyber-shot labl is with a knuckle. Worked first time and for dozens of others!

This camcorder hasn't been used for many years but when I switch it on although it has power to it, the view finder just has a vertical white line down it. It's the same whether it's on 'camera' or...

Does it work at all with out the view finder? If it does work completely then you can use the camera without the view finder. Point and shoot and the more you use it the better you get at it. Good Luck

Nikon d50 monitor does not work during photo shooting, must use view finder

This is completely normal. The monitor is used for setting menu items, displaying shooting info, and reviewing images. Like SLR have functioned for over fifty years, you take pictures by composing and framing through the viewfinder. Only the most recent dSLRs have the Live View capability which allows you to use the monitor like a point&shoot camera.

The camcorder fell ,shows only black and white inthe view finder

What has happened is that one of your cabels has come disconnected in the accent. A solder job would fix this, but it is likely with the cost of todays cameras for the price of the repair, you should go out and buy a new camera instead. Super V is a good looking picture but can't compare to the High Def cameras that are out today. You will be very happy with the results of taping resolution from one of these. Infact, there are some great HD cameras that record directly to Hard Drive, thus saving you on tape costs for the rest of your life. So, one could say that the camera eventually pays for itself since you won't ever have to buy tapes for it! (Make sure that the HD conversion from camera to your computer is compatiable and there are no issues with it... Do a google search on your new model before you buy it, as some have issues with transfers to different Operating systems).

Sounds like a CCD issue, can yoou see menus and pre problem recorded pics on the memory cards but no live views That is a CCD issue, ala C-5050 CCD recall problem, identical symptoms.

Black and white lines in view finder

Screen or main board failure. If it is still under warranty you may have a chance bit if over a year or so old - not worth considering for repair- though you could try. take a look through the file here http://www.fixya.com/support/p423-nikon_coolpix_5600_digital_camera/solutions
