The only solution is buy a DVD disc cleaning kit and follow the instructions, this will clean the plastic lens and maybe get it back in working order. Second option is to buy a cheap DVD player in hopes the back of the set has the proper audio and video input jacks.

Technika tv

It sounds that the problem to your TV is with its DVD loading tray. A pure mechanical fault indeed. Not loads the disc properly to its seating. A motor fault, or a gear wheel fault, or a leaf switch fault could be. Anyway, you have to take the DVD mechanism out from the TV, to get the actual problem could be resolved. Really this is a semi skilled work. It will be best to contact any service technician in this case.

I have a Haier HLC19K1 19" tv/ DVD combo that

If you have tried more than one commercial DVD and are getting the same results then the problem is the player has failed. Actually what happens is the heads go out of alignment and it doesn't have the accuracy to read the tracks any more. This is a typical failure of dvd players in desktop and laptop computers and standalone players. While the heads can be aligned it isn;t worth doing. It was when a dvd or cd player was $1500 but not now.

Unfortunately the only cost effective fixes are replacing the dvd drive or replacing the entire unit. The replacement dvd would cost more than a new replacement tv/dvd combo. So you can buy a new tv or buy an external player ($40ish).

Recording

sometimes this happens. now. the dvd you put in was it rewritable. a friend could not run his dvd recorder until i gave him a dvd+r rw disc in and lo, it worked.
some dvds have this function without telling you, perhaps it is in the instructions in small print.
also, try a straight dvd+r disc, not a rewrite. experiment with other discs because some will not see cheap discs but expensive ones.
i have dvd that does not even reconise a dvd, but when i wish to burn a dvd, i use that one because it is the best.
strange isnt it...

DVD appears to not be reading or recognizing discs

Unfortunately your DVD drive mechanism looks to have bit the big one.

You can try taking it apart, removing the top of the drive and cleaning the lense. Work it up and down. Use a q-tip with a little squirt of windex on it.

Reassemble and try it again. If you get the same results, it's time for a new DVD player.

Won't play disc, reads no disc

Hi, well I see this type of thing in my Lab alla time unfortunately it sounds if ya DVD has gone faulty... an all too common occurrence these days.. the Laer seem to be very "Frail" You could try a cleaning Disk, but they seldom work.. but sometimes? all ya can do is replace it with another good DVD.. OR if thats not possible use any AV input and connect a remote DVD player that way.. a bit of a hassle, but it's a work around anyway.

Console

It may be that the laser is aligning itself after trying to run the disc, you may need to run a cd cleaning and aligning disc in the playstation, although, it maybe that the laser is on it's way out.
