Question about Philips 60PP9202 60" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Black square covering up most of the screen

A black square, covering pretty much the entire screen - with the exception of a few inches around the edges, appears when 20-30 seconds after we turn the TV on. It disappears when we turn the TV off (even before the images all turns off, the black square disappears). It happens again pretty much every time we turn the TV off. We used to be able to fix it by turning it on and off a few times, but that does not work anymore. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Try goeing into your Menu and see if you have the closed Caption on that will produce a black box on the screen if you have the owners manual look in there,if you don't have it you can go on line and download it from the manufactures website under Downloads Good luck Walter Grzybowski

It turns out that the Closed Caption option was turned on somehow. When I turned that off the Black Square went a way and did not return.

Black square covers the center of the screen-

the closed caption is probably on. look on your remote or in the tv menu for cctv and change the setting. there are at least four different types of cctv and you may have to cycle around some to find "off.

Black square

hmmm...the black square syndrome..sounds like the picture in picture settings are unhappy..check those, to see if maybe it's on some sort of timer, and accessing a non channel(which might explain the black square).

Black screen

I have a Sharp Tv that had the same problem with a large brownish or black square right in the middle of the screen. It only left about an inch around the edges that you
could see the picture moving in behind the big black block or square.I have DISH sat-elite and the book recomending that I check and see if the "caption settings" were on
or off. They were on. I turned the caption settings off and the large square diappeared.
