Picture problem Turned it on the other day and the picture was dissappearing and coming back like it was being turned on and off, only it wasn't being turned on and off. After a few minutes of being left on the picture will stabilize with concave edges on all 4 sides and the picture is 2/3 the screen size. Also the picture has red, blue and green shadows. The sound is fine but intermitantly it will get loud for a second or two and then resume normally. Can anyone tell me what parts I can replace to correct this ?

If your screen keeps shrinking and expanding its typicaly the opto chip. You can get the chip and repair instructions from www.TvRepairKits.com . This is a fairly common problem.

First start off by replacing the convergence IC. They are soldered into place, so if you dont know how to unsolder and solder on printed circuit boards, you should ahve a pro assist you. They start with STK and they stand up on a metal heat sink. Also you may need to check around in the sweep supply for leaky capacitors. This set is common for them but not any in paticular

I have a Hitachi 50GX49B, when I turn it on red light on panel comes on, but no picture or sound. 4 weeks ago picture would come on, but would break up and dissappear until warmed up, this took about 2-3...

if you bang on the TV or try kicking the very center bottom of the tv and it works or flickers you got a loose solder connection somewhere on the board. I got the same problem. When it warms up the solder, around what ever pin it might be, makes better contact. I am looking into the problem and will post my finding when i figure it out.

You must have cleared photos and videos. however, many people do not realize that an accidental audio recording can use up all the disc space. So check for extra large audio files.

No picture just sound

Your projection tubes are messed up. It's a very expensive fix, just get a working TV off craigslist with a smashed screen and reuse your screen itself (usually 100-200$) or just toss the TV and upgrade to an LCD

If you press the magnifying glass button when in playback mode, the data dissappears. I don't know if that fully answers your question, though.
