ONLY BLACK SCREEN NO CABLE OR AIR SIGNAL

The TV was on and while resetting a circuit breaker, I turned off the power to the TV and turned it back on. After that, the TV is only showing a black screen. We see all the menu information but it wont select a cable channel or show any static when on the Air function. It worked fine up to the power on and off situation. What do you think?

  • BRYAN BRIDGES Sep 18, 2006

Here was the solution to the problem. I just unplugged the TV and let it sit for about 3-5 minutes. When I replugged it in, the TV was back in action and working fine... Whewww that was too easy.

Samsung smart tv model UN55MU6300FXZA screen is black but power is present.

Something inside the Samsung didn't like the surge when it was switched back on. If an electrician is turning on power, it's a good idea to have any device which are normally on standby, switched off or unplugged from the socket, till the power is restored.
You will probably have to replace the power board on the TV to see if it restores the rest of the power.

I have a circuit breaker that controls a light switch and all the outlets in one bedroom and controls half the outlets and a light switch in another bedroom. None of which work now. I have replaced the...

One single cable runs from the circuit breaker to a junction box in that area of the house.
The cable has a black Hot wire, white Neutral wire, and bare ground wire.
Once the cable arrives at junction box, it can split up 2 or 3 directions.
Each successive box receives a cable that feeds back to the first junction box.

Chances are the junction box is on the ceiling. And it will be the ceiling box that is closest to main breaker box.
Junction box can also be a switch box. In that case it will be switch box closest to main box.

Find the junction box, as point of organization.
Open junction box and separate all black and white wires.
Turn power on and see if breaker sets.
That will tell you if problem is between main box and junction box.

Junction box wires are separated.
Tape tester leads to wood sticks to keep hands away from power.
Turn power ON and test each wire in junction box to bare ground wire.
Tester will light up on Hot wire.
Test Hot to each other wire in box, except bare ground, and tester lights up on Neutral
This identifies the cable that comes from breaker box.

Now, reconnect cable from breaker box to one of the other sets of black and white wires located in junction box.
Check if breaker resets.
If breaker resets, see what circuits are working, and you can eliminate them as suspect.

Remember each successive box in a circuit has 1 cable that connects back to main breaker box
Going 1 box at a time, and disconnecting black and white wires, will eventually lead to the suspect.

Power light keeps flashing and won't turn on/

Hi,

If only power button is blinking then there is a problem only in your power button tube.

This sounds like a problem with the reset in the TV. This is not a reset circuit like you are thinking. It has to do with the micro and relay circuit in the TV. Another way around it would be if you had a cable box. You could hook it up to the cable box and just shut off the box and this would turn off the TV.

Also Unplug the TV and wait for a few minutes....plug back in. Hopefully it'll reset itself. If not, try reprogramming the remote and use that making sure there are good batteries in it.

If nothing works pull the back off and look around for a fuse near where the power cord is connected. It may be a circuit breaker too. Locate but DON'T TOUCH the large black wire going into the side of the tube. Follow it back to the fly back transformer or voltage Tripler. Look for a fuse here on the circuit board. Reason I say don't touch the wire is that it could be charged at about 28,000 volts which is normal for a colour TV. The TV glass and the outer coating forms a capacitor which stores DC current. An open fuse would mean the power supply is not functioning.

No power

Hi,

If your television has no power, try the following:

1. Check the power cord for breaks, tears, or exposed wires .
2. Check to be sure that the power cable is fully inserted in the outlet and that the outlet is working.
3. Go to your fuse box or circuit breaker box and check the fuse or circuit breaker of the circuit your TV is plugged into. Replace the fuse or reset the breaker if necessary.
4. Replace the batteries in the remote control, and then try turning on the TV using the remote.
5. Unplug the TV, wait five minutes, plug the TV back in, and then try turning on the TV.

If the recommendations above do not resolve your problem, most likely the power supply in your TV has failed and your television needs service.

Thank you !!

Black screen ,blnk screen

Check to make sure TV is on, there should be an indicating light when on. Check to make sure that coax cable or input cables are connected. Make sure that TV is on proper input for the device that you are trying to use i.e. DVD, Blu-ray, Gaming console, Cable or Satellite Box, etc.. Make sure that the input device is turned on.

If TV will not turn on it is likely that the TV set needs to be repaired, before calling your local TV repairman try unplugging the TV for a few minutes, then plug back in and try it again. you may also try plugging in something else to the outlet where TV is plugged in to make sure that the outlet is working or that if using a power strip that the switch is on, and circuit breaker is reset.

Sony KDF-E60a20 loses signal

I had the same problem. The TV would work for about 2 minutes, then lose audio and video for about 45 seconds, then come back on. This was a constant loop. The power LED would stay lit constant though. I considered changing the lamp as other blogs suggested. Then I thought the problem may be simpler. I removed the lamp, and to my surprise, the lamp screen was full of dust. $5 bottle of canned air, cleaned all the dust from the inside of the TV (including the lamp screen), and low and behold the TV worked great. The lamp did have a burned smell to it, but it still worked great. I would suggest trying this first. Save yourself alot of money:)

No signal on TV, black screen

Back - light problem. Check and replace damaged component/s at its back-light inverter board, or replace this board as card basis. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. It will be best to replace the inverter board as card basis.
http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
To some model sets; especially LED back-lighted types; the back-light inverter circuit will be part of the main power supply board [SMPS]. In such cases, the power supply board might need replacement. To some models sets, the back-light inverter and SMPS section circuit will be integrated at its main board itself. If so; the main board should be replaced. To some models of sets, all these section circuit will be integrated at its main board. If this is the case, you have to replace the main digital board.
