If hitting the TV sometimes corrects the problem then usually there are some bad solder connections. As the sets heat up and cool down the pc boards slightly expand and contract, where a component leg sticks through the board and is soldered on the other side a small crack will develop around the solder connection. Sometimes they are easy to see, sometimes very difficult. One way to narrow down where the bad connection is, being very careful because of dangerous voltages, using something non conductive lightly tap different parts of the pc boards to see what area is most sensitive, then you would need to unplug the set and get to the bottom of that board and look for the bad connections.

How can i fix the 50fx30b projection tv? flickers a lot

Its an older set but a good one, does it do it on all inputs like tuner and the rear audio and video inputs? This will narrow it down somewhat as to where or what the problem is as "flickers" is fairly vague.

TV turns on . Sound on but no picture. sometimes it flickers and i receive a picture but only for about 10 seconds. This happens with different sources ie tv,sat, vcr.

Its possiable that you may have poor solder connections where our STK ICs are resolder them and transistors they are big black ICs will have STK392-110 on them. I would First start out with soldering everything on convergence Board.

Shadows and double vision

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Just a line on the screen?

Your tv has a failure in the vertical circuit. Most likley since you explained that it was coming in and out you could fix it by Resoldering the connections on the vertical output IC. Replacing the vertical output IC would be your next step after this.
