The picture on my 2001 RCA TV model F25442 suddenly went from perfect to shades of red. When I turn the set off and on again, I see a narrow horizontal band of colors, predominantly red, which then expands to full screen color but faded looking. Within seconds the color fades to full red.
I had a television that went to a bright shade of blue.A friends neighbor worked for sony television plant where the new tubes came down the assembly line. His job was to make sure tubes were working fine,if one color was dominant then his job was to smack the front center of the tube with a rubber mallot to fix the problem. He suggested i try that with my tube while the set was on.It worked and solved my blue problem.Apparently he explained, the gun connections in the tube came loose and to fix it was to smack it this caused the connection to reweld itself. For you I would use the palm of an open hand and smack the tube dead center with a good hard smack.Dont be afraid of breaking the glass because its very thick and strong.Give this a try.Hope it helps.Good luck!

HELLO.! IT SOUND'S LIKE A POWER SUPPLY PROBLEM TO ME.!!! & FOR THE TIME YOU WILL PUT IN TO IT & THE MONEY .!!! YOUR BETTER OFF GETTING A NEW SET.!!!HOPE THIS HELP'S YOU.!!!"GOOD LUCK"
You have a bad flyback transformer and shorted horizontal output transistor.
Your set would have to be taken to a shop to have these parts replaced.

On mine I took the rear cabinet off, unseated the card mounted on the picture tube, applied a little dielectric grease on the connector on the card and reseated the card, removed, re-greased and reattached the card. I have had no problem with either my or mom's which I did the same to since! This is an easy fix that anyone can do. The hardest part is moving the TV and reassembling the rear cabinet. Do not pull the cabinet back out more than you have to, to ease the reassembly of it.
