The word "FACTORY" is now appearing in red letters across the top of my screen. How can I remove this to keep it from burning in? It started when I got a new remote from our cable company, and even that was a fiasco---the new remote won't turn things off and on, but it will do everything else. We even had a technician come out here and try to deal with it, but no luck. And now that stupid and distracting word across the screen has us really worried about what could happen.
This is called BURN IN. BURN IN usually occurs when any one picture remains on the screen for an excessive amount of time. To my knowledge, there is no way to remove these annoying "brandings," however, they can easily be avoided by changing the channel on the TV, or not leaving the TV powered on continuously (especially on just one channel).

This sounds like your convergence correction amplifiers have malfunctioned. These Integrated Circuits often burn out after a few years (STK392-110) they can be replaced with a higher version (STK392-150) However it is important to have the biasing circuitry checked to make sure nothing has burnt out as a result of the ICs malfunctioning. If you have a background in electronics you can repair this problem with very little effort, however if you do not have a background in electronics, I would suggest that you have your TV serviced by a qualified TV technician.
I hope this helps,
Thank you,
