I have a 2004 HP ZV6000 laptop. It worked fine until about 6-8 months ago when it began to shut down completely. At first it was sporadic but now it's every time. We tried a laptop cooler and it helped but was short lived. Now we have it sitting on a makeshift box with a hole and a regular fan under it. It stays on a lot longer but will still shut down sporadically.
Also, the r key is sticking. If you even hover your finger above it, you have a million r's on the page before you knoww aht happened.
Please help. We have bought newer models for us but are passing this down to our teen son and would like to find a good solution without having to put more money in it than it's worth.
I have the exact same problem. The system shut down in the middle of playing an mp3 disc. The disc is now locked inside and the cumputer is shut down. It has power and was plugged in with the cord when this happened. Help!

The heatsink is obviously clogged with dust, adding the extra cooling like you have has helped but the build up of dust has obviously now become critical. You can try blowing compressed air into the proccessor/heatsink vents in the back of the case but the best answer is going to to open the case and physically brush/blow the heatsink clean.
If you feel confident enough to open the case, this site can help you with some pointers: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall.
ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time.
Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.
Ask for a repair man to open and check it. There might be a problem on the circuit that the system detects and automatically shuts off to avoid further damage.
hopefully you replaced motor with the same Rpm HP Volts and made sure the rotation of fan was correct.. Might have a bad/defective motor I would take it back to whomever you purchased it from as the should exchange it. Good Luck
I have just tried to fix on of these.
Shuts down for no reason, the more you try and use it,the quicker it shuts down.
I cleaned the fans, refitted the heatsink and CPU, cleared out all virus/malware infections, thought i had fixed it, it ran for 1 hour in safe mode.
I rebooted and it shut down after 5 minutes.
It seems this model is prone to damage to some solder joints after overheating.
You can fix the solder, but it just breaks it again after about 3 months.
You may get it working longer if you use a laptop cooler stand.
My advice is to sell it for spares and get shut
you have a corrupted software try to format and reinstall it again, most corrupted system comes from improper shut down sometimes during installation your CD or DVD rom is defective although it is reading and seams working fine try to install your system using other rom drive
Your cooling fan sounds to have went out, causing it to overheat and shut down.It also could be something in the fan stopping it from turning.Try cleaning it or blowing it out with it off.But it mostly sounds to have went out.
Hello. You may want to double check your connections and cables. The only time I've ever heard a clicking before a system shut it's self down was when a kid had stuck the battery cover from a TV remote into the disc drive.
Also, if the PS3 keeps acting like that, Sony will repair/replace the unit for free including shipping since it's under a year old. Thanks and good luck!
the best bet for you is to ask Sony for service,it looks like the console is having major hardware issues..the only other option is to do a reset but you will lose all data..(u can back up though)
