After two years, my printer is taking in multiple sheets for printing instead of one at a time. I haven't tried to resolve the problem because I can't figure it out, so I must sit here and feed the printer one page at a time. At least it is still working, but it is tedious all the same to feed the printer each page! The solution offered on this site recommends to just buy a new printer...

From the first day that I used the printer, I've had to load paper one at a time. This is tedious on time, but also because it leads to other problems such as the paper not loading correcting (i.e. paper jams) and then I spend more time trying to fix the problem the printing. I barely use the printer because of this problem. I appreciate the advice about the replacement rollers and how the cost of fixing them would be about the same as buying a new printer.

Printers have feed rollers and separation rollers or separation pad.In your case, separation roller or pad is the problem.
Separation rollers separate sheets from each other.Clean it or replace it.

Take a soft cotton wiping rag with warm water and mild detergent and clean your printer surface areas well being careful not to break or damage any thing or get any electrical part wet just the surface areas where the paper feeds. After thoro cleaning carefully dry the same areas you clean with a dry cotton rag. You should see a noticable difference next time you use your printer. Cleanliness is next to Godliness and Computers and Printers like it too.

I had this problem and I cleaned the rollers. It worked for quite a while after that. Worth the effort.

I've heard that a little sanding the rollers with some course sandpaper sometimes gives them a little extra life...

Clean the separator pad, just under the paper pickup rollers. Water and cloth. or a toothbrush soaked in water,.

I just took the back of the machine off by unscrewing five screws and that gave me access to the feed rollers. I used isopropol alcohol and Q-tips to clean the rollers and the pads under the rollers. This fixed my problem.

Sounds like the rollers used to grab the paper are worn down. According to this page that references replacable parts for that model, it doesn't look like the rollers are on the list: http://www.dttservice.com/printers/canonprinterparts.html#Canon22X It looks like with the price of the replacement parts anyways that it may be just cheaper to buy a new printer.

It's a pickup roller problem. You can try cleaning them with alcohol, realizing that eventually that process will dry out the rollers. The problem is the paper dust gets on the rollers and "clogs" them, making them slippery...or it could be the separation pad opposite the pickup rollers...I would clean that as well.

I would suggest you have a foreign object that has entered the paper feed path. Tip the machine on its back and give a tap or two. You may even here something rolling around as you tip it back. If you can't get it out you may have to remove the covers to get better access. Try http://www.TheServiceManualShop.com for a service manual if you are not sure how to remove the covers.

SOURCE: MF8180C Check paper size error

for god's sake don't ring canon customer service as they are useless and just keep directing me to their **** driver which is causing the problem. i could not convince them that my "printer properties" "paper available" was locked on "letter" and won't allow me to change it. even when i go to the "printer preferences" page and set everything to a4 and press "apply" it still is locked on "letter" in the "printer properties" page. Iv'e probably wasted about 20 hours on this and my office has nearly ground to a halt. If i knew it was going to be this much bother i could have just bought another brand printer.

Hi the machine could be defaulted to print from the main trays if you have the same type paper being fed from the manual feed same size paper then it will automatically take it from the default trays
IF you take the paper out of the trays and put it only in the manual feed will it print and take it from the manual feed also you have to tell the machine when you use the manual feed what size and type of paper is in the manual feed once you tell it what paper and type of paper like card stock you then need to make sure when you go to print that it is set on your computer with manual feed and type of paper must match what is set on machine

Dell 922 All-in one ink jet printer paper feed

Normal 0 I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it will feed through the printer. The reason for this, is in some cases I have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there over time.
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this way, saving costly repairs.
Hope this helps. Bud

Okidata Microline 320 Turbo Printer - forms don't maintain registration

On older printers, tractor feed edges separate from the page while printing. Sometimes this can be a fluke, but other times it may point to a mechanical problem. Try taking the paper out of the printer and hitting the form feed button a few times. Watch the printer’s tractor feeds to make sure they are moving and are in synch with each other. Some printers use belts to move the tractor feeds and, over time, these belts wear, break, become smooth and slip, or become misaligned.

Environment can also contribute. Paper stored in a warehouse can weaken in intense heat or moisture. Carbon copy paper will especially cause this type of problem as one sheet's feeder edge can break away from the rest and peel slightly back. This will in turn slow the feed on one side as the edge buckles slightly under and may even skip to release pressure causing major alignment problems.

Paper Jam

hi y'all -

you share a frustrating problem... error message but no apparent error (jam)! it's one that's common to many models of printers and the result of many different causes.

I've seen it when I've printed on cheaper paper, or different (lower) grades with odd surface finishes. the sensors get dirty, or the printer/computer 'thinks' there's paper stuck where none exists. I've opened/closed paper trays 2-3 times and rolled feed rollers around multiple times, then closed printer paper drawers only to have the 3rd time of doing the exact same steps be the time it cleared the error message.

there are often very tiny pieces of paper stuck in weird places in the paper path in printers, too. if you did have a jam before the message started, is every little scrap of the page accounted for? there are also hard to get to places to find paper scraps in larger printers, but I'm going to assume you're all talking about home printers.

here are a few general HP support links you may find helpful for future paper jam messages for this model of printer.

this link is for general info for this model:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&dlc=en&product=304535&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

this link is for general support for this model:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/solveCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=304535

here's a link addressing paper jams in general:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bud09189&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&rule=26353&product=304535

and here's one on cleaning your printer:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00016484&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=304535

hope this helps a little bit for future refs. remember that using good paper helps print quality and lessens printing problems. also, when you take a stuck page out of a printer, doing so gently will help ensure little scraps of paper do not tear off paper edges and get stuck in weird spots. it some times helps to gently, manually, roll the feed rollers a full turn around in the printer, too. patience pays! -JW50

Hp psc 1315 paper jam

Hi,

. Switch off the printer and disconnect the power supply. Allow any residual charge inside the all-in-one printer to dissipate before putting your hands or any metal tools inside the chassis.

2.
Pin down the exact location of the jam. The 3 hot spots for a jam are before a sheet completely leaves the paper tray, anywhere between the feed tray and print carriage or between the print carriage and output tray.

3.
Take off the front paper tray if the sheet jammed while still in the front area of the printer. If here, you should be able to see most of the paper.

4.
Pull the sheet with both hands and steady pressure. Do not tug as you might rip the paper, leaving a piece deeper inside the machine.

5.
Open the back panel to reach paper jammed between the feed-tray area and print carriage. Carefully remove the jammed paper.

6.
Use the carriage access door to get at a jam further inside the printer. You may need to remove the print carriage to get to the jam.

7.
Replace all parts and return any access panels to their closed and locked positions. Plug your printer back in and flip the power switch.

Okic3200n lazer jet printer

Best results will be if the paper you are using is designed for use in this machine and you print with the driver knowing paper type and using a direct flat paper path

Use The bypass tray (and you can also use face up delivery tray ) and make sure you tell printer what paper type it is using ie control panel, printers, preferences, paper type set to photo/gloosy or even card stock if it is thick.

Ensure feed rollers are clean, and paper is good quality
