My D600 will turn on, but only the power light and caps, number locks will turn on, then it will turn off. I would do this several times and then it would start to boot. It will do the boot up but only go halfway and it will either freeze or turn off. I ran a diagnostic on it, read it in one of these concern pages. It gave me a FAILED TEST. it says."START DST SHORT TEST"

I was finally able to purchase a hard drive for my D600 and still having the same problem. Press the power button and all the lights will come on and then it turns off after 4 sec. no screen or fan coming on. The “DST SHORT TEST” is a hard drive diagnostic test. Apparently your hard drive needs to be replaced. press that down and hold
press the num lock (toggle)
press the scroll lk (toggle)
press white cap lock only
See if any of these change the lighted lock indicator.
I assume that was what you mentioned in a focus of the request
This is do to the jack were the power button board plugs into the motherboard, i see this alot on d600 and d610, the lights come on for about 3 sec then computer turns off..
this can be fixed by resoldering the plug to the motherboard but most will say you need a new mother board the leads are small and tight together..
I did a check and the D600 series I am pretty sure is not capable of running Windows 7. Re install the original OS or a Linux and go to the Windows 7 RC page and run the compatibility tool.
