Kamal, You need to find the sawtooth waveform which is generated by the vertical oscilator. There will be a pin on the IC that should show the waveform. If it is not there, then the IC is bad. If it is there, then there is probably an amplifier stage prior to the deflection yoke that has a problem. Either way, the sawtooth wave is not getting to the deflection coil which is why it is rolling. Ther might also be a coupling capacitor which has opened up. Hope this helps.

Picture is rolling

In the old days there was a control at the back of every tv labelled "vertical hold" that needed adjustment when the picture rolled. As tv sets became better that control was at first moved inside the cabinet and then finally deleted.

The vertical hold controlled the amount of synchronising signal (that is extracted from the signal received from the antenna) reached the frame oscillator. Today's electronics are so stable the vertical and horizontal synchronisation is automatic so while sometimes a rolling picture can be caused by a bad signal it almost invariably caused by an internal electronic fault needing the attention of an engineer.

I have a westinghouse tv, model ltv27w2 and the picture is clear but it rolls and jumps constantly. any ideas on what part to replace?

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.
In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

Vertical rolling. Instability in vertical sync: circuit. Contact any service technician. Sounds like an IC fault. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience.

Crt Ultra slim lg tv develops black bars up and down of the screen automatically and this happens only during the day. I dont notice it during the night.

Vertical rolling is the problem, I assume. If so, it will be the fault with its vertical output IC. Contact any service technician to make it confirm.

Picture rolls untl il warm

Picture rolling is due the fault in the vertical output section of your TV. To rectify this fault, you have to open your Tv, and locate the vertical output section inside it. It is so easy to locate as, there will be four wires going from the deflection yoke, that is the coil fitted on the neck of the picture tube, out of which, two of them will be thick, usually coloured red and blue, and the other two will be thin. Just follow the two thin wires, which will lead you to a scoket fitted on the circuit board. Upside down the circuit board, and trace the tracks of these wires, and you will reach to the vertical output section.
Normally Toshiba uses a 7 pin IC, number [TDA 8403K], in this section, the number may vary according to sets model, but the function will be the same for all. It will be screwed onto a metal hetsink. I advice you to resolder all the soldering ponts of that IC, by applying a little more solder, without making any solder bridges between the terminals. Normally this may resolve your problem, as there is a chance to get soldering loose in this section.
If this does not help, resolder the IC out, and go for a same type and number, replace it.

The picture on my TS-4573 rear projection tv has started to roll vertically at a fast rate. How can I make this stop. On old tv's there was a vertical hold adjustment on the back that you could play with...

this fault is caused by defective electrolytic capacitors in the vertical deflection circuits, they need to be changed out, do this before it causes more problems, there are no adjustments for this anymore.

SEVERE VERTICAL DEFLECTION FOLDOVER Only a narrow horizontal stripe about 1'' high appears on the screen

Hello sneakjock,

This is a problem with the vertical output signal. Check the vertical coupling capacitor, the vertical output between the yoke transformer and the vertical output transistor amplifier or (IC output). My odds are on the coupling capacitor being bad.

You will need a schematic diagram and an oscilloscope to check this problem. If you have a background in electronics you will have no problem solving this problem, however if you do not have a background in electronics, I would suggest getting a qualified TV repair technician to do the work on your TV set.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Problem with screen on TV

does it roll on normal tv viewing? This is what we call a vertical fault. I don't believe it was because of what happened but U never know. The vertical IC or a faulty cap can also cause this problem. If it rolls on your regular tv programs then it is a fault in the vertical section of the TV
