Chewing up mini dvs

My camera has started chewing up mini dvs at random. As in when i eject the dv, the tape foil is out of the dv and all twisted. I have tried winding the tape coil back in but the dv won't play again. Is this a common problem? Is there an easy fix of is it a technical thing that needs repairing? Thanks, Melissa

Canon XL1S eats tape as soon as it's inserted.

It needs to go in for cleaning and service. It is a vintage recorder and the rubber feed capstans are probably sticky and need replacing.

When put in a new tape it sound like something is off track what do i need to do to get working?

Perrhaps the pinch roller is chewing up the tape and is guiding it down.Look for possible dirt on the drum. the tracks or the roller. Also check for free movement of the idle rollers and action of the take up spool. Make sure that the tape is of good quality.

Chewing tapes up terrible destruction on tapes

This is a clear sign that the DVCam tape path needs cleaning. Use a mini DV cleaning tape 2 or 3 times and if it still does not have any effect get it to a camera store for a professional clean.

Chewing up mini-dv tapes

These type of problems usually result from damage to the tape transport mechanism, Unfortunately they are impossible to fully diagnose without a physical examination of the mechanism.
There is not a magic tweak for this i'm afraid.
