When I connect my hp laptop to my spectroniq hd tv the screen goes black on both devices and nothjing plays how can i get it to connect properly

Right click on your laptops desktop and select 'Screen Resolution'. From the dropdown to the right of 'Resolution' choose the smallest. Once you do this try plugging it in.
