I turned my camera off and the zoom would not retract. Now when I turn it on I get a zoom error on the screen. It doesn't even zoom in or out or allow me to take a picture. MY A600 zoom was extended when the battery quit. Now it won't retract when off and the lens protector is open. MY A600 zoom was extended when the battery quit. Now it won't retract when off and the lens protector is open.

If the camera was on when it was dropped you probably jamed the lense coil. The lense coil is what helps the camera smoothly pull in the lense and back out. Now, just to specify, what exactly are you having a problem with? Will the actual lense not go back into the camera when you turn it off; or can you not get your camera off zoom?
Let me know~

Have you tried spraying a can of compressed air into the lens assembly? All it takes is small piece of debris like a grain of sand to jam up the assembly.
Your lens motor is most likely burnt out. The only way to continue taking pictures is push the lens in manually, You may have problems with the focus after doing this, so just turn the lens manually until you are zoomed in properly. If you have a warranty now is the time to use it.
The lens got out of track. Try to have them back by forcing gently the lens in ou out with your fingers. If they are bent, force them straight. Hope it helps.
If the "!ZOOM ERROR" message is displayed on the digital camera, switch the camera off and on again 2 or 3 times. If this does not clear the error, take the camera to your nearest FUJIFILM Service Station for testing and repairs. Problem may caused by lens zooming gears stuck.
I had the same problem turn up after a few weeks. When I used the zoom
button, the lens pushed out again and the camera worked normally for
that time. I had to go through that procedure every time I turned the
camera on.
I then sent it back on warranty and they replaced the lens assembly as well as the mode dial knob etc.
This camera has a 3 year warranty.
good luck...
Usually down to the lens block assy being faulty. Is the lens retracting and opening properly?.It usually turns out to be worn gears in the lens drive assy or the result of a fall.Either way will be expensive repair! My advise is check and see whether camera is covered by insurance for accidental knocks.,
The zoom lens wont go back in when you turn the camera off and also wont take any pictures because of it saying zoom error.
