HI
I was trying to cook a whole egg and put it in a slightly covered bowl with water and egg inside and put the microwave on for 4 mnts. It exploded aftr 2 mnts and the door slung open with a bang and heat. It is not turning on since then. We are unable to close the door.
Pls suggest what to do. It is Sharp's 1.6 cubic R-308NK, which was bought only 4 mnths ago frm Traget. I retain the original box with barcode but not the sales receipt.
The egg exploded from the energy input. When they blow they go big. Think poached 1minute.

SOURCE: Damage to samll rectangular material inside microwave
Well, I have just spoken with a reputable, but now retired, appliance repairman, he advised that this small rectangular cover on the upper interior of the microwave is a MICA Insulator Shield - of which one may be able to purchase just the shield. At this time, I do not know if any appliance parts places have this MICA Insulator Shield available for purchase. But apparently you can purchase a pice just slightly larger and cut the right size for replacement.
If the old one is burnt at all, or has a hole or crack in it - Do Not Use the Microwave.... as it will begin to arc and likely through out the breaker and/or fry the magnatron.

Unless there is some kind of safety seal addressed in the manual, I would think the door open lever has failed.
If that's the case, I would return it for a replacement.

SOURCE: Our Microwave keeps running unless we give it a whack!
Hi firstly to see if it is producing energy, buy some 5mm light emitting diodes from an electronics store. cut off the leads close to the plastic body.
place in microwave and put on cook for max 10 secs, if the led's light up you have microwave energy, shut off the oven as soon as they glow otherwise you end up with a mess.
If you have energy then your problem is most probably the door interlock micro switches which after time do not operate properly. let me know the results and we can go further.
SOURCE: my microwave does not heat but there is power
Sounds like the magnetron has failed. This is the component that
produces the microwave that heats the food. The cost of the magnetron
is about 95% of the cost of a microwave .
Most people don't, for this reason, replace the magnetron, they replace
the whole oven which is probably what you will end up doing. There is a
possibility that the circuit that provides power to the magnetron is
faulty and you need to take it apart, find the proper electrical leads
and test them with a volt meter. To do this you have to remove it from
its mounting and take it apart. It is a fairly lengthy process however.
