It sounds like the mount which holds tension on your door latch heads (door hooks) is broken. You can confirm that by pushing up on the door hook. If it goes up with no real resistance, the spring is unhooked. Fixing that would require disassembly of the door (by separating the panels) and repairing or replacing either the door hook assembly or the door panel inside.

Microwave "DOOR" in display.

Most likely the switch that senses whether or not the door is closed is either out of adjustment, meaning when the door closes it doesn't physically make the switch contacts close, or the switch is defective. If you can physically find the switch you can "trick" it by holding it closed with a piece of tape. If that works then the switch is simply out of adjustment. If that doesn't work then you can short together the two wires going to the switch which simulates the closed internal contacts of the switch. If that works your switch has failed. If neither works then you may have a broken switch wire or solder joint where the switch inputs it's signal to a circuit board. If it is a bad circuit board you may spend the same amout of money replacing the board as you would buying a new microwave. Please be careful with theses test procedures and remember dealing with electricity can be a shocking experience! Good luck.

Describe your 30 in. Built-in

The door switches are the problem. Well, actually one of them is. when you open and close the door make sure the switches are actually being engaged. I have seen the plastic snaps that hold them broken and the switch just moves. Just replace all three switches and you will be fine.

I have an Oster DLC-7 food processor. It has always been very hard to close requiring force. The last time I used it, a white plastic part popped off from the back. I don't know whether anything is...

You have a broken the door latch. Most people have the habit of slamming the door shut ( the same way some people hit the enter button on the computer ).With age the plastic becomes brittle and the slamming accelerates its demise. Now connected to this latch is a safety feature which shuts down the Microwave when the door is opened during cooking. So till you replace this latch the microwave will not work. Disconnect the microwave from the power outlet and remove the top cover ( 4 to 5 screws at the back ) , look near the bottom close to the DOOR OPEN button. You will see the rest of the latch with a spring attached to it.Do not attempt to glue the broken piece because the force exerted on the latch is very high and will not hold. You challenge is getting a replacement. Best would be to contact the seller or locate a authorized service center from where you might be able to procure it. It should cost you about 5$.

My microwave no longer starts when the door is closed. You have to hold the door tight for it to work. Door is not shutting tightly enough.

On the DMT2420, that's a bad bottom door switch, or possibly that switch's mount.
The service manual is here and the parts list is here. You can order Dacor parts by part number from the Pros here.

My SMH4150 microwave appears to be working, but is not heating . It is 5 years old and there is a smell of burning plastic. Everything else seems fine.

Check the door safety interlock switches.

Do you regularly shut the machine off by opening the door? Each event causes a small arc on the tiny contacts and will burn them. When they can no longer make contact, your microwave doesn't know if the door is open or closed. The machine must know the door is closed to turn in the magnatron (that thing that makes the heat).

Remove the cover and check the microw switches with a volt/omh meter.

Interior light always on Ge advantium 120

I bet by now your microwave is no longer working....did the bottom or top "hook" finally break off? I found that mine had cracked and started coming loose and so when it closed it was no placing enough pressure on the internal safety switch that tells the oven the door is shut. I was able to use a sturdy plastic glue to solve the problem but finally after about 2 years of fixing it I can no longer get it to bond. Now, I'm looking for a new part. Who makes a product this expensive with plastic parts!!?!??!?!? So frustrating.

GE microwave won't turn off

Just checked the GE website. Had the same problem with my 5 year old microwave. GE website says to close and open the door quickly three times. First time I did this it didn't work. Second time I closed the door with some significant force and reopened it more quickly. Worked. Unplugged the microwave, plugged it back in, still fine.
