Static on screen and then turns itself off then on
My ProScan is about 8 yrs old. When I turn it on it has loud and noisy static: not full screen static, just one white line several times that pops and hisses really loudly. Then sometimes during this static it turns itself off then right back on. It doesn't matter if I'm watching TV (through satellite box) or a videotape or DVD (on Sony combo). Sometimes it turns off/on 3-4 times in half an hour. It's really annoying. Can someone please help with a solution advice? THanks.

My first aproach will be to see if the tv reacts to tap on the sides if you see a reaccion when you do it most likely you have a loose conection and need to call someone to find it and resoldered it.Dont do it yourself if you dont know how.

if you want to eliminate magnetism, you have to degauss the screen, if you don't know how to do that, here is a small guide for that: http://www.wikihow.com/Degauss-a-Computer-Monitor
but that strange shutting down its the transistor... so your best choice is to send it to a repairman to change the transistor.. if you try to do that for your self, you could even get shocked with the electricity contained in the tv... even if its turned off and unplugged..
indicates a blocked or very dirty unit. Try cleaning with a saniflo cleaner - can be intorduced via wc bowl without unit removal. if this fails then its time to remove the unit and clean / look for blockages

OK, if it feels like it relates to the turning of the control, then the vol control may be noisy and will need a spray with contact cleaner lubricant. Do you think you can do this, I can talk you through it. If not, a repair man or someone with electronic experience could do it for you.
enter the user menu to see if you have text or telecaption on,if not your vertical section is possible at fault if the bottom half of the screen is blacked out.
it is due to power supply failure.
1 check for loose contact in power supply.
2 it might be due to plug or socket loose.
3 switching circuit failure in power supply.
good luck.
