Re: Power ON: Only sound is chirping sound-No picture
The chirping inside this set is an indication that theres a short in the set, and is loading down the switch mode power supply. This is not a job or the lay or handi person. Your going to need to know how to troubleshoot solid state electronics, and use a multi-meter. Your also going to need to use a schematic to trace where the short is. Please seek out a pro to assist you in this repair.

This tv problem are also part the tv Convergence board problems too.The tv convergence board are toally dead have no power voltages activity to the tv convergence board at all. That why u only have chirping sound only.If ur tv convergence board that have some power voltages activity left and have dying parts on the tv Convergence board only.Tv will have picture but have problems R,G,B colors lines mis alignments, have colors shadows pictures or 3D pictures only. The tv convergence board must be repair like replaced 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resitors too. Will fix the tv convergence board will fixed the DLP tvs with chirping noises too.The tvs shops will cost u like $300-$350 for parts and labors to fixed the tv convergence board.
NO - - signal did nothing to the set... Sounds like a shorted HOT (horizontal output transistor) and the feedback your hearing (chirp) is on the horz. transformer as it tries repeatedly to startup... Don't allow it to do that for too long...
Sounds like something may be shorted out inside keeping the power supply loaded enough it wont start, dont recommend trying to fix unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing, there are some high voltages inside, I wold Call a TV tech out to repair, Just FYI, these sets from Phillips/MAG usually have CRT fluid getting cloudy causing discoloration/fog to pix around this age and older, between both repairs, some sets start around $1000, just an idea.
It sounds like you may be on the right track.
Also you could have a problem in your Horizontal Deflection circuit.
Since you say it flickered, you may have a solder joint that was arcing. Probably in the horizontal circuit. I found a capacitor which was arcing in this circuit. I was a small disk type.
NOW since it is chirping, the horizontal output transistor may have shorted placing too much of a load on your power supply. The noise you hear is the power suppply trying to start.
Most of the time, when there is a chirping comming from a TV set, there is a short somewhere inside the TV set. That chirping noise is the TV's power supply starting up and shutting down because of a heavy load on the power supply. These sets have no user replaceable parts inside them, so play it safe, and call out a pro to assist you in this repair. good Luck
