Phillips Magnavox 60" tv

I have a Phillips 60" television that doesnt power up properly. Model #9p6040 c102. My initial problem was that the sets picture would be lost at random time intrevals and become a vertical white streak in the center of the set. After turning off the set and letting 1 hour or more pass the set would operate properly for a while then repeat. Sound is not affected. At one point I decided to unplug the set and give the interior of the cabinet a cleaning using light air pressure and a vacumn. Now the sets power indicator led illuminated green as it normally would and a small speaker 'surge' but no normal tv function. Also no screen indicator to enter menu options. Do you have any idea(s) on this type of problem and possible costs. I realize the set is 6 yrs.+. Thank You for your time.

We turned our television off for about 4 hours, came home and tried to turn it on and there is nothing. We tried changing wall plug ins, checked to make sure the power plug was in good and still it will do nothing. The DVD and satellite are plugged into the same power surge and they are working fine.

Common problem and fairly easy to fix.

    Problem
Screen shrinks and expands - may or may not correct itself after the TV warms up. After a few days, weeks, or months of having the shrinking/expanding problem you may loose all audio/video but the power light will remain lit!

    Solution:

Check with the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have built a kit to fix this problem.

Your first problem sounded like a bad solder connection on the vertical circuitry somewhere on the nprinted circuit board. Now its almost anyones guess, as I dont have a clue what you moved or touched when you attempted to clean out the set. its a job for a pro if you have no TV repair experience.

The picture is fuzzy and shaped like a hour glass

I had the same issue. The screen would shrink and then expand over and over. After thrity minutes it would correct itself.
After a few months of doing this it just broke - no sound and no videe but the power light was still on.

I searched these forums but did not find clear instructions or kits on how to fix it. I gave up and called in a repair tech. He fixed my TV in less than 30 minutes.

To help others I documented the fix and created a repair kit and step by step quide on how to fix the problem. You can find it here. http://www.magnavoxhelp.com

9p6040 c102 60" television - has power, no sound or picture

Screen shrinks and expands and wams up after 10-20 minutes and then went out completely? Power light still comes on and remote still works? This is a common problem for this model and is most likely related to a bad chip. A tech will charge you over $300.00 to fix it but you can buy the repair kit including the chip, step by step instructions and repair manuals for under $40.00 if you are willing to do a little soldering. Go to http://www.magnavoxhelp.com/ and enter your model or chasis number and order the kit. This will not fix color problems!
