My hp photosmart m407 will not shut down, sure if I take out the batteries it goes off but the lenese is still out. When the batteries are in the screen will display the last image taken but nothing else I cant get to the menu the flash or even the zoom. If the blue arrow button (the one that shows the saved images)was jamed would this happen? any button I press turns the image on and off.
WOW: All three Solutions Work Fine.
I Removed the 6 small bolts and took the camera apart.
lifted the tape and cleaned the contacts u;nder the tape with alcohol, let them dry then replaced the tape, lineing up the contacts on the tape with the ones on the body of the camera. Put the camera back together and put back the 6 bolts, inserted the batteries and presto: the camera worked. Thanks for the info , it really worked. Wes Reed

Yes, I had exactly the same with this HP camera. I solved it by removing all 6 bolts, gently removed the front and the back of the camera (so your camera ends up in 3 pieces) and put everything together again. Nothing more than that. And suddenly all works fine again. Thanks for the hint!!

In one of the same case with the same camera and model i found the gum on the plastic tape to hold down the panel switches at position got loose, making the switches short permanently. once removed and placed back in proper place the camera started working fine.

I had the same problem with only the camera turning on and taking a picture, it would not turn off, zoom, the display and menu also did not work. I did exactly what was posted on this web site and it worked perfectly after that. I had to move two round pieces back into their places on the electronic board under the LCD screen inside of the camera after I took it apart. I was amazed that this worked I wish someone would tell HP Technical support as I was on-line with them today and they had no solution for me. So happy This web site helped me out! Now I will not have to buy a new camera.
