Thank you, the RC is gone. IIt is now locked on Ch 43 and won't change bands. This dual TH-791 is showing Ch 43 in the lower prorttion of the screns. When I press

band it jumps to the other band but immediately reverts to the CH 43 on the lower portion of the screne. I appreciate all your assistance. KF6JQI

TH-79A Kenwood HT and with the power off, hold down the MR button and the PTT switch, and while holding both of these turn on the power. The HT will come up in the remote control mode with the display indication "RC" on one band and the normal display on the other band.
.
To get the HT out of the "RC" mode just repeat the MR+PTT+Poweron sequence

By chance is the radio in lock? If all else fails, it sounds like the processor might need to be reset...

    .

TH-79A/AD/AKSS - With the power off press the F key for (memory reset),
    and turn the radio on.
For VFO reset with the power off press the VFO key, and then turn the radio on.

I have two Kenwood TH-79A Transceivers. Both of them have the common "flickering display" problem. My eyes are no good and I can no longer accomplish this relatively easy repair. Who can do...

I solved this problem once by opening the unit and adding a rubber spacer that exerts pressure on the ribbon cable. I cut the spacer myself from a neoprene-like spongy material. This fix worked for approximately 5 years. The problem is slowly re-emerging and I might have to do it again soon.

TH-79A Blank screen. It works with "F-switch on" but then goes blank.

Happened to me too. It takes some disassembling!!!! Between the screen and the underlying circuit board is a rubber strip with conductive material throughout which provides ''ground' for the display. This rubber wears out over time, but the quick fix is to turn it a quarter after cleaning and treating the contact surface with 'contact spray'( sparsely!!).

Job requires steady hand and pincers.

I don't have a screen display on my TH-79A. The radio is usless in this condition. Has anyone else had this problem and what was your fix?

You could have a defective screen or a defective LCD driver, either way you have to replace it.
I 've replaced LCD screens before they typically are the entire front half of the radio inside wise. Probably going to cost a few to do it.

Kenwood 79a dual band transiever

There are several reasons for this, but one can be the flex that joins the display with the circuitry, carefully check if this is not broken or in this process or dirt.
