Question about Kenmore 15892 Built-in Dishwasher
Aprox 3-4 yr old Kenmore 15892 worked perfect (?) since new. Few weeks ago would not drain. Experimented with front elctronic controls and pressed "cancel" and held a few seconds. DW then drsained out remaining rinse water. All OK until yesterday when "lock" light came on and stayed on when trying to start. Never even noticed that light coming on before but now washer does not work at all. Light won't clear by pressing "cancel". If I hold for 10 seconds, "quick rinse" lights and blinks, but then "lock" lights back up when cancel is released. No lights when door is ajar. Too many other project underway for this thing to break down now. Help?
Joe, see if you can reset the board by pressing heated dry-normal-heated dry-normal..(new board). Old board is high temp wash-air dry-high temp wash-air dry. See if it goes back to normal. If not you probably have a stuck or shorted keypad on the overlay..not the board. Catriver...post back

Usually answered in minutes!
My board is a bit different than either, with six cylces reading:
"anti bact" "pots pans", "norm wash", "china/gentle wash", "time saver" and "quik rinse" and an options group reading: "hi temp scrub", "sani rinse", and "air dry" followed by "delay", "start" and "cancel". The lock light is just under the "air dry" button. I tried what I thought was the closest match to those buttons you referenced and still no go. Given that the presumption is that it's a board issue, my next step is to turn off the breaker, check the board for contaminents and clean with an electronic parts cleaner. I'll post back what I find later today. It can't be worse than when I cleaner cat yak from my PC's keyboard. Disassembled, washed then rinsed with distilled water, blotted dry and let air dry overnight. Presto!
OK, Catriver, now I feel silly. This is not exactly like a PC keyboard internal. Opened it up and found that the keypad is a sealed ribbon unit. Probably can't remove without destroying seeing that it's applied with doublestick tape. Also nothing to get gunk on like a board, which that area is very well protected from front spills, steam, etc. Going to reassmeble, try to reset again and if still stuck, will order a new keypad overlay. At least opening it up I got the part number. Thanks. Will post back when operational if new overlay fixes. One remaining question is the incomplete drainage. Why didn't it ever finish? Doesn't that seem more like a pump or solenoid problem?
Pressing the air dry button for 5 seconds DID clear the problem and "lock" light. I was about to start testing individual components today when I saw this solution on another site and then here. The thought of a $120 panel overlay was sickening. DW seems to be working now. So far I just ran the cancel/drain cycle but will do a full test later. Washing dishes by hand bites! Thanks for your follow-up response! I greatly appreciate this forum and the help. Joe
catriver- Here it is two years later and the same problem occured, One difference is that the "CLEAN" lisght is blinking too.
Washer was started, but only began cycle, then had a blinking "CLEAN" light. Blinked 7 times, then paused, then 7 times, paused, etc.
Came back to this board and found the previous recommendation. I'm sorry I failed to post back. In the end, 2 years ago, I replaced the control board, for about $100
Today, I started by pressing the HI TEMP SCRUB, then AIR DRY, then HI TEMP SCRUB, then AIR DRY. No luck. Then tried pressing and holding the AIR DRY button for 5 seconds, until red "LOCK" appeared. Then I again tried pressing HI TEMP SCRUB, then AIR DRY, HI TEMP SCRUB, then AIR DRY. The board lit up like a Christmas tree. All the lights lit, then NORMAL WASH lit up anad a time of 8 minutes, then a cycling sound, "7 mintues" and a a short cycle light, "4 minutes", then "3 minnutes", "2 minutes" all the while sounding like a short washing was occuring. At the end of two minutes, it shut off. No blinking lights.
After coming to the PC and keyinig all that happened, I went back and started a new wash cycle, selecting "ANTI BACTERIAL" ( why would anyone NOT choose this ??), then "AIR DRY". It started up OK. Will see after a while then add more to this post.
Meanwhile, I thought it should be noted that with this new control board, when starting a wash cycle, after pressing "START", instead of a time displaying in the window, it now shows a single LED bar, like a clock hand, blinking in a 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock, 6, then 9 o'clock position, continuing to go around for what seems like the first 20 minutes.
BOTTOM LINE - after running for a short while, we're back to square one. The machine stops running shortly into the wash cycle and the clean lights blinks seven times, pause, then seven times, repeating continuously.
