Question about Toshiba 42H83 42" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
Hello, I've had my Toshiba for about 4 years. About 6 months ago, I noticed the picute was slightly wavy when I turned the TV on and it went away a few seconds later. As time went by, the seconds turned to minutes. Now the screen is always wavy but viewable (unless we're watching a shot that has tons of cuts- it's like the TV cannot keep up with the picture!) after being warmed up for about 30 minutes. I've called a few repair people and am getting so many possibilities for issues that could be causing this. Some say it's the convergence box, others say it's some card inside (that has something to do with the HD, which we don't use) that can go bad and is very costly to fix. I'm not a tech-expert by far and want someone to try to assist me before I start shelling about $$$ to get someone out here. Is there some testing I can do to check and see if it's the convergence that's the issue? Thanks!
First thing Do not beleive peeps about a bad card. Modules are not used in TV sets any more unles your talking about a complete board change out for a Zenith TV set. Toshiba sets do not have a card or board changeout!.. These peeps are crooks! A Toshiba set is repaired to componet level. It sounds like you may have a convergence problem or a problem inj the power supply involving the filter or couping capacitors. Seek out a pro whos an authorized servicer for Toshiba.

Bounce horizontally usually means up and down, which relates
to the vertical output IC. Solder IC301, IC401 pin connects==try
again. You can easily isolate "bounce" problems by lightly
tapping on the vertical IC heatsink....Let me know if you need
further assistance.....T.
PS. Though hard to find, a qualified tech could do that repair
in home for 300. to 400.00...
