I followed the directions to finalize and half way through a message said failed to finalize. The files were no longer on the disk and we cannot seem to recover them. Nearest service place is states away...any way to recover the files, or any place that will assist? Popped disk into a computer and it seems to be blank.

you just need to replace optical pick up of the set. It must be costing abt rs 6500/-

Remove your battery, plug in an AC adapter, then go to the menu screen select finalize disc

Inorder to finalize the disc you must purchase, or have a piece for the charger that looks like a battery. it plugs into the charger than into the camera. The camera will not finalize the disc without it incase the battery runs out, than all info would be lost.

IF THAT DISC WAS RECORDED ON AND THEN REMOVED BEFORE FINALIZING IT WILL NOT FINALIZE. THE CAMERA LOOSES THE MAIN INFORMATION TABLE FOR THAT RECORDING. ONLY THING TO DO NOW IS, IF THE DISC CAN STILL PLAYBACK ON THE CAMERA THEN CONNECT IT TO A DVD RECORDER VIA THE AV PORT AND RECORD.

I had to re-do the project, this time using Standard Quality rather than High Quality, and it completed creating the file(s) and writing the DVD.

I experienced the exact same problem, and have not been able to finalize the disk and lost the content on the disk. Is there a way to fix the camcorder?
I had the same problem although I am able to play it in the camcorder but anywhere else.
