GE 46GW945 Projection has color alignment problems after power outage
Hi there, I recently had a power flucuation in my area, with the power rapidly turning on and off. This all occured in the span of about ten seconds, before I had the sense to turn anything off. When all was said and done, my GE 46GW945 BigScreen Projection TV, which is several years old, had what appeared to be misaligned colors. The red is off to the side, the green is off on the other side, and everything has a bit of an afterimage. My neighbor has the exact same GE 46GW945, and he is able to access a menu option for restoring allignment automatically or manually. Odd thing is, I just don't have that. The space in my menu just isn't there. Has anybody seen this kind of problem before?

this is weak power distribution throughout the unit. you wil need to test the power supply board for blown capacitors and resistors as well. replace this vital board if you notice any swollen or disscoloredcomponets.
You can get parts for your model by going to the following link and leaving them an email stating the model of your set and indicate which board you are needing. Heres the link http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
if you had a good pic before it went out then keep it but if you did not then toss it yes you have bad stkconvergenceics this is not costly if you do the repair your self you might even have bad solder connections just look and see if your connections have small cracks in it then just solder your done good luck
The GE (actually RCA) 46GW945 uses the PTK195 chassis. There is a separate power supply for the convergence circuits in those sets. The earlier versions used a switching transistor but most sets use the STK730-010 power IC. I have seen many of those IC's stop working after a power surge, resulting in very curved sides with screwy colors. You can remove the back and you will see the 2 main boards at the bottom of the set. The convergence power supply board is mounted above the board on the right (when viewed from the back) and has a pretty large black IC mounted on a little heat sink, labeled STK730-010. Replace that IC and the colors should return to normal. If you do not have experience replacing IC's and working on TV's then allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.
This set has a problem in the convergence power supply. The memory in the set thinks it is a direct view television since it cannot read the convergence memory. The convergnce power supply will have to be repaired to component level since the board is nla.
Your problem is a bad main filter, a regulator IC ,and or a combination of a convergence problem along with a vertical IC going bad. This set is not something you should mess with unless your a trained tech. Please seek a pro to assist you with this repair. good Luck
How do you replace the Convergence IC's?
