Legacy 1200 watts

I have a legacy amp installed and it keeps going into safe mode while im driving along....but when the car is parked the amp works fine,can someone help me find the problem ??

    i have 2 amps in the car 1 amp powers my rear speakers and the other 1 powers my sub they are all powerd by the same live wire the 1 for the rear speaker stayes on ,but the 1 for the sub goes to safe mode... then i switch the stereo off and then on and it works for a bit then goes to safe mode again....

I agree with Techman, But when I was 16 I had a system with the same problem. Car not running the system ran perfectly start the car and it would drop off. Took it apart three different times even added an air induction cowl to keep amplifier cooler. did not change anything. What I did not take into consideration was when the car is on the voltage is used to power lights, coils, computers, and all the other things needed to make the car go and I was using a long run of light gauge wire. When a downbeat would come the voltage to the amp would drop down, and the amp would sense it as a problem sent the amp into protect for a second and back on it would come again. Better wire, Better amplifier, and five alternators later. Do not know if this is your case but it just reminded me of that.

First thing to look for would be pinched speaker wires,or a bad ground, or a loose b+ wire. The next would be to have the amp bench tested and the tech should bang and tap on the unit to see if there are bad or cold solder connections inside on the printed circuit board assy.
