I have the same problem I think. After I watch for a little bit, it goes into almost like a 3d effect, or something like this. Ill wack the side of the tv with my shoe, and, all is ok for a couple mins. But, then goes right back to 3d. Im, pretty good with electronics, but not the lingo.
Thanks

I have the same problem so does everyone with this model. I have found that the IC's are the problem.I have the same problem so does everyone with this model. I have found that the IC's are the problem.

Probably a lamp problem. They aren't very expensive and relatively easy to replace. If not the lamp, possibly the color wheel. If it makes a high pitched sound from time to time, it's definitely the color wheel. Good luck
the next time it is not working go into the customer menu with remote and call up the convergence grid and look---there---if convergence is way off and or comes and goes---this set uses 2 Stk-392-570 ic's and it is quite common to see them become intermittant.
Your reference to concave picture suggests a high voltage problem and not convergence. If the raster can't scan from left to right , top to bottom, your having High voltage trouble. if your colors are not dropping on top of each other that is convergence. I would suggest it may be time to consider a purchase of the new HD set for the cost of this repair. good luck
Replace the two Convergence amp ICs they are both STK392-570 Ics you can get replacements at the following link with free instructions on how to remove the old and replace the new ones. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
I HAVE A 48" REAR PROJECTION (SONY) THAT WAS PURCHASED IN 1997. IT FINALLY WENT OUT LAST WEEK. PARTS ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE UNLESS YOU WANT TO PAY A HEFTY PRICE. I AM NOT GOING TO REPAIR MINE AS IT IS NOT AFFORDABLE TO DO SO.
This is likely solder connections cracking on your convergence ICs. If you can bump the tv and it goes back to normal, it just needs resoldering, but if it doesn't, then it needs the ICs replaced. If the convergence is out, you will see a bowed picture and the red, green, and blue will be separated. Worth repairing if you can find a company to do it affordably, I can help you repair yourself if you have disassembly and soldering skills.
Convergence ICs and the two pico fuses need replacement. You can get replacements at the following link with instructions. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
Is it expensive to fix? Would I be better off just buying a new tv?
