Re: I have a bdp-430 Blu-ray disc player from pioneer and...
Hello If it reads and play all other format discs, that is, CD, MP3 and DVD.. The laser pickup unit is faulty. Check your player can read all region DVDs with it. OK.
This is the troubleshooting procedure for the Sony, I had one that did the same thing, and this resolved my issue. Hope it will resolve your's as well.
Follow the steps below to troubleshoot if the BD player cannot read or play a disc:
IMPORTANT: Prior to following the steps below, go to the Drivers & Software section of the Sony® eSupport Web site to check for available firmware updates. If a firmware update is available, it will be posted there with a list of improvements over the original or any previous firmware version. Some disc playback issues may be resolved by ensuring the BD player has the most current firmware installed.
Ensure the Easy Setup procedure has been completed on the BD player.
NOTE: Can't play DISC may display on the LCD screen if the Easy Setup procedure was not completed first.
Ensure the inserted disc is compatible with the BD player.
NOTE: Consult the instruction manual of the BD player for a list of compatible discs.Manuals are available online through the Manuals/Specs/Warranty link on this page.
Select BD players may require that a USB memory device has been properly inserted into the EXT slot of the player prior to playing the movie. If the BD player being used does not have an EXT input, skip this step.
NOTE: The USB memory device may need to be re-formatted to FAT32 format prior to inserting it into the player.
Examine the disc for any cracks or scratches that might be interfering with playback.
Wipe the top of the disc tray using a soft dry cloth before placing the disc on the tray. Attempt to play the disc again.
Attempt to play another disc.
NOTE: If another disc plays in the player, then the previous disc may be faulty. In this case, contact the Customer Information Service Center at 800-222-7669 to speak with a customer service representative for further troubleshooting.
Remove the disc from the BD player.
Turn off the BD player.
Unplug the power cord of the BD player from the electrical outlet.
Let the player remain without power for 1 minute.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.
Turn on the BD player.
Insert the disc into the BD player.
Attempt to play the disc.
The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required.

Try updating the software from Pioneer.com more than likely going to have to put the software update on a disk, burn it, and install it. The old Sony's work the same way but are hard. Good Luck
