New dishwasher leaving powder residue on dishes.

Bought a new dishwasher and found it leaves a white powdery film on my dishes. Bought brand new Cascade complete liquid detergent, using amount for hard water, rinse aid is full, but still having a white powder residue. My old dishwasher did not do this. The dishes seem clean, but need to be wiped off the remove powder residue. This is a new Kenmore elite 13869 dishwasher. I have well water, good pressure. Any suggestions?

Yes, I have the same problem with my dishwasher leaving a powdery film on dishware. My dishwasher is 6 years old but just started doing this about two months ago. We have hard water and no softener but my Whirlpool Gold Quiet Partner(which is not quiet) has done a good job up until 2 months ago. I need a solution. Thanks!

Bought a new Kenmore just several weeks ago as well - a very expensive one and it, too, like my old GE dishwasher is leaving not only a film on my dishes/glasses, but building up white residue on the heating element on the bottom of the unit. My GE dishwasher had a big buildup on its element as well.

i have city water and live in las vegas. curiously enough, my neighbor has a GE as I once did (up until about 7 weeks ago) and her heating element has not one bit of the white powdery buildup. Looking forward to a solution to this. I should not be on my second dishwasher in a mere five years living in this house. Thanks.

The problem is hard water and there is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. it actually filters the water going into your dishwasher and leaves your dishes spot free. after the first load i was amazed that the white film was gone and my dishes were sparkling. you can get it at www.dishwasherfilter.com.

Hard water will do this. If you are not treating the problem (hard water), then you will forever deal with the symptoms (buildup). You don't see the buildup as much on the cheap plastic tubs because they are the same color as the buildup. You WILL notice it on higher quality, stainless steel tubs.
If you have hard water, and do NOT have a water softner, stop complaining.

Sorry, that reads more harshly than I had intended. I just meant to say that there are alternative possible faults other than the dishwasher.

this would make sense except that the problem just started happending and I've always had hard water.

Did you find a solution to your problem yet? I'm curious because just in the last couple of months I have noticed a powdery residue on my dishes, which I've never dealt with before. As far as I know my dw is working fine. Just curious if you've fixed your problem. I noticed you were the most recent poster, so that's why I'm asking.

New dishwasher leaving powder residue on dishes.

Quit using the new Cascade. The formula change is what is causing the problem. No research from Cascade before releasing the product
