Question about BenQ PDP-46W1 46 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television

1 Answer

No picture my power button shows green, however I get no picture what so ever. Should I send it to a repairman or will it probably be something too expensive? I can't afford to dump a lot more money into this unit.

Could be the panel or a logic board, you must take pane voltage measurements and unhook the cables one at a time to see if the voltages come back up

Won't turn on

Check and replace damaged component/s at its main board. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" will make surf easy.

Why does my sony tv only shows green picture

You probably have a bad optical engine. See a local repair shop. Tv is an excellent product made in USA. Where are you going to find that today. A local repairman can replace your optical engine with a rebuilt one.

Our picture will only show reds and greens, no other colors.

Go to your On Screen Menu to picture settings and reset and choose "reset picture" mode. This will bring you back to factory defaults. If this doesn't work shut off wait 10 sec. and turn on the TV. If still no luck call your best friend who is a TV repairman, you probably have a damaged blue drive.

Drum will not turn and there is no heat.

This dryer has a circuit board that controls virtually everything. If it makes a buzzing noise when you press the power button to turn on the control panel, it's probably not going to be an easy fix. When you hire a professional, you avoid buying expensive parts that you might not need, such as a control board. If it makes a loud buzzing noise when you press the start button, it's possible that it could be a motor or belt problem. But again, I'd recommend a service call for this one.

I've been having this problem for a while. when I'd turn the tv on I was able to watch it for about 15 minutes. suddenly the picture and voice would turn off, but the green power button was still solid...

Sounds like it may be a power supply issue. I don't know what "modules" the tech replaced, but I would have advised you to scrap the TV for a newer model as they can get pretty expensive to find and replace parts of the older rear projections. Sorry I can't be more help to you.

Tv works but picture is showing in blue

If the picture is blue only and there is no red or green, you have either colour gun failures or if you are trying to watch a picture from a component source there maybe something wrong with the red and green cable feeds. Try watching a DVD using a single composite video feed (usually a yellow RCA plug). If this unit has an internal tuner (either analogue or digital) and you still only see blue broadcasts then you have a problem. Whether this unit is an LCD or CRT rear projection TV the repairs will probably be expensive. Ultimately, it is not a user repairable device and needs a qualified Sony tech to undertake the work.

Green Screen, No Sound, Shuts off after 10 seconds

Almost certainly the green picture tube is shorted. This is a very expensive repair; probably not worth doing.

Picture background is Red Sony KP-57wv700

Is it a reddish tint or the picture is just red? Did it just happened, or you are just noticing a gradual change? Reddish tint: Blue and/or green CRTs are getting weaker. More likely the green CRT. Unplug the unit and somehow remove the back cover, etc. to get a direct view of the CRTs. Use a flashlight to inspect each CRT through its lens. CRTs with excessive wear will show a definite "burn" mark where the picture forms. Compare the center CRT (green) with the other ones. Normal wear in all three tubes is expected. What is important is to notice the difference. A significant wear in one means it has to be replaced, but usually all three have to be replaced in order to get the right purity. This is a major overhaul, and unless the TV has a sentimental value, it's not worth it. Picture just red: Green and blue CRTs not firing. This is easily observed by running the TV with the back cover removed. Probably a loose connection, but you will need the manual to trace it. You could gently tap the chassis while the TV is running and see if this restores the blue and green CRTs.

Picture bounce

I think that maybe your horizontal hold is messed up. If there is anyway you can change it with a button or dial or something on the TV that would do it but if there isn't one then there is nothing you can do but to take it to a repairman but it is really expensive. You'll probably spend more on fixing it than you for the TV itself. You're better of to get a new television.
