SOURCE: Lost entry door key, need to rekey kwikset deadbolt

Unfortunatley you need to have the key to remove the cylinder. You can take it to a locksmith that can pick" it to remove the cylinder and make you a key but it may be more cost effective to replace it.

Sorry not to be mre help.

SOURCE: How to install kwikset door knob with lock

Are the holes in the door? Are you replacing the old lock? Need to know these things, or I will be typing a bunch of stuff you don't need. Most doors come pre-bored. If not, you need 2 bits, One is 2 1/8 inch cup bit, the forstner type is a lot more expensive, and a 1 inch paddle bit, again, the forstner bit is expensive. Measure up the door app 39 inches, unless there is a lock rail on/in the door, then measure to the center of that. Then on the inside of the door, measure back 2 3/8, most locksets now are adj for 2 3/8 or 2 3/4, you can use either one. You can drill either hole first, To drill your one inch hole in the edge of the door sighting along both sides of the door with your eyes crossed so you can make sure you are going straight, you don't want to bust through the side of the door. Then get the big bit out and drill from the mark till you just come through the other side, then back it out and drill from the other side so you don't tear out the hole. Your 1 inch hole should be all the way into the big hole. Then get you chisels, the sharp ones, put the plunger in the one inch hole, nice and straight, then mark the outside with a sharp pencil, cut the line with the chisel then cut out the waste about 1/8 to 3/16 deep, make sure it fits nice and tight, Predrill the two screw holes, or you will split the door.Get the lockset out, the key to the outside, and the button on the inside of what you are locking. Line up the holes, you might have to spin the button to get them to line up, then put in the 2 long screws. Mark the jamb with the striker, To get it right, put the striker on the door, hooked into the latch, mark the edge of the door with a pencil, then put the striker on the jamb, backwards, to the line you just marked, then out line it, use your 1 inch bit to hog out the middle nice and neat, cut the rest out the same way with the chisels, predrill the holes, you should be all set. OH the deadbolt? You didn't mention that, it goes the same way as the lockset, only the hole is smaller, 1 1/2, I think, you will have to check that. Now you know why people call carpenters.

SOURCE: exterior key for deadbolt just turns around and around.

It sounds like the exterior tumbler is bad, it is less expensive to just replace the whole deadbolt than to have the tumbler repaired.

Kwikset lockset does not lock

The shaft for the lock fits in the knob. The lock on the knob might be 90 or 180 degrees out of rotation. Please remove the know and twist the lock 1/4 turn and put it back together. Also you may need to reset the location with a key and when the lock knob is off, turn the lock set with the key, then turn it and replace the knob.

Exterior door stuck closed manually retract ****** remove knobs KWIKSET

You will probably need to replace the latch assembly. There is a small rivet that holds part of the latch together, and it also acts as a pivot point for a small piece that retracts the latch. If it gets bent, the latch won't retract fully, but you might be able to push it back and get the door open.

Re-assemble a kwikset front door lever and knob type latch

Since the exterior side of the lock only has a keypad and no lever, I'm not sure what you mean by the "outside lever". Here is a clear, easy to follow video of the installation. Please carefully review each aspect of your installation against it to see if you can spot an installation mistake:

I have an exterior screwless doorknob that I need to remove. The faceplate on the inside knob that covers the screws is also covering the little pin that removes the knob. Is there another way to remove...

There is the 3rd version of the Kwikset exterior door set. The interior face plate is removed and on each side of the base plate has small slots with a lever on either side that need to be moved to the other end of the slot. The whole interior knob assembly with come off.

My exterior door lock (Kwikset) is stuck shut. The knob will not turn. I removed the knobs and tried to pull the mechanism back - but unable to. The door is therefore stuck shut.

Get a big scredriver and put it in the square in the middle of the mechanism and turn it till it opens, or you will just have to pry it out with the scredriver.

I have 3 door knobs on outside doors that are loose and need to be tightened. the knobs have come completely off sometimes when we go out the doors. how do I tighten the knobs so they are not loose?

On the inside side of the door knob, there is a decorative plate. Depending on which model door knobs you have, it is held on with a "set-screw" that might require an allen-wrench (looks like an 8-sided tool; usually in an L-shape), or just simply a screw driver, to loosen and remove it. Once you take the decorative plate off, there will be two very obvious screws that hold both sides (inside and outside) of the door knob together. Tighten these screws to tighten your knobs, then put the decorative plates back on again.

Sounds like its binding. Loosen the screws that hold the 2 halfs together. Get the key to work smothly. snug the screws and try again. If ok then tighten the rest of the way.
