I have a 52'' big screen RCA television, under 3 years old. Here lately while turned on the t.v. will change to channel 2 and then turn off. When powered back on it will not work. We have to unplug and then plug back in. Right before the t.vv switches off it makes a hissing type sound. What could be wrong?
These old technology sets (rear projectors) are notorious for high voltage problems, and this is probably what you have. RCA is now, sadly, a Chinese junk brand with poor support, but your older unit may still be slightly viable, but not very. Put it into a big truck and take it to a shop. Home service may not be available, or may be nearly worthless. Better yet, get a new TV. I suggest a 1920X1080 LCD model. (Panasonic, Sharp, Sanyo, even Funai or Orion are the best choices) Forget plasma, DLP, or any of the rear projectors. These huge, ugly (and mostly empty) boxes really belong in the Smithsonian, not in your home! When you see the new LCD's, you will forget about your old boat anchor in a heartbeat.
