If the rectangular symbol has a droplet shape in it as well as the red line across it, it means there is condensation in the camera. The manual recommends that you take the tape out, leave the mechanism open and allow the camera to dry out in a suitable environment for 2 -3 hours - presumably a warm dry place. It suggests you check it then and even if the warning has now gone out to wait another hour before using the camera again. I have downloaded a copy of the instruction manual in Adobe Acrobat format from the Panasonic website. Jack

Red light flashing in view finder. Looks like a bowl with a paintbrush and a line through it. Camera does not record when turned on, have to turn off and on several times before it will possibly record

The red flashing symbol means that the backup battery needs to be replaced. I'm not sure that it is what is preventing recording, but you can change it and see if it works.

The backup battery is a CR2025 button battery. It is located under a square plastic cover, beneath the main battery. Take the main battery off and you should see this cover. The backup battery should be installed with the + facing out.

When looking through the view finder can only see flashing purple

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check this link for more info.

Skil 2100daf angle finder

I was trying to reset the zero on my angle finder. It's a Powerfist Digital Angle Finder, the same as the Skil 2100.

After turning the unit on, if I press the Miter and Hold button together and hold them, the unit goes into 'calibration' mode. (The display flashes 0.0). If you do nothing, it will always stay in this mode forever after that.

You can then reset your unit - it takes time however and patience.

With the aid of a large protractor, draw angles on a large sheet of paper (I used a couple of 11 X 17" pages) from 0 degrees all the way up to 220 degrees.

Turn on your angle finder and make sure the numbers are flashing 0.0. This will be your 0 degree reading. Hold the finder closed and press the Hold button once.

The display will now read 10 degrees. Open up the finder until it matches your 10 degree marks on your paper and press the Hold button again.

The display will now read 20 degrees. Open up the finder until it matches your 20 degree marks and press the Hold button again.

Continue setting your angles in this fashion up 'til you reach 220 degrees. The next button press will close the calibration cycle and the numbers will stop flashing.

Your unit is re-calibrated. Now, if it's off - you've only yourself to blame.

Good luck!
